Being a pessimist can be good thing my buddy was heart broken last year when the Flames didn't make it and after their shitty start to the year he had no hopes for the playoffs this year and even tho they came close he took it quite well this year. So it was nice not having to deal with his ridiculously drunk ass this year.

DETROIT -- As a difficult season comes toward an end in the midst of a long and prolific career, Detroit Red Wings forward Mike Modano is considering closing the book.

The 40-year-old Livonia native, who set the record for career goals (561) and points (1374) among American-born NHL players, said Friday that a long playoff run could mean the end of his career.

"It’s evident of how the season has gone," Modano said after Detroit’s 4-2 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night. "It’s been a frustrating year for me, personally. But it’s not over yet. I’m just kind of basing it on the next couple months, and hopefully they’re fun and exciting and we have a lot of fun. If we do go deep, I think that’s probably it for me."

The 21-year veteran, who spent much of his career in Minnesota and Dallas, returned home this season. But his time with the Red Wings has been cut short by a wrist injury that cost him 41 games.

He has just four goals and 11 assists, more than a decade removed from leading the Dallas Stars to a Stanley Cup title in 1999.

"It’s been unbelievable," Modano said. "It was a great opportunity to come back here and be with this organization and have the opportunity to be with some world-class players. You just couldn’t pass that up. Being around them, being with this team, this organization back home has been a real treat."

It would be....but damn it I don't like the Red Wings. Plus he's got one from his Dallas days. Best American born hockey player ever.

Modano has more goals, assists and points in both the regular and post season. And he's got a Cup. Roenick got more face time cause he's loud, but I think Modano is the better overall player.

I'll give you Modano was a better OFFENCIVE player than Roenick, but Roenick was a far superior ALL-ROUND player. I'd take J.R in a heartbeat over Modano...J.R could do it all, score, pass, hit, fight, intimidate...Modano for 90% of his career was a VERY soft player and a liability defencively.
