Jagr was simply the best player in the league for quite a few years. One could have questioned how good he really was when paired with Lemieux, but proved that he was great once they were split up by topping the league in points for many years. NHL Awards

So realignment is going to happen in 2012-2013. So far it seems like the NHL is going to a four division format with one division with 7 and the other with 8 in each conference. How would you guys break it up?
Eastern
Northeast: Boston, Habs, Sens, Sabres, NYR, NYI, Maple Leafs and Devils
Atlanic: Pens, Flyers, Canes, Caps, Lightning, Panthers, and Preds
Western:
Mid-West: Wings, Blue Jackets, Blackhawks, Stars, Blues, Wild, and Jets
Pacific: Flames, Oilers, Sharks, Ducks, Canucks, Kings, Coyotes and Aves

. | I will disagree with you on Jagr being the best player in the league at any given time....amongst the best, but I would disagree with "THE" best.
Definatley offensive talent for sure, but I hated his cocky attitude, his whole salute thing after scoring, and I'll be honest....I'm not much of a fan of most European hockey players.

I don't think he'll do much now. If he does end up in Detroit I hope your instincts are correct. It's not as if I know better than anyone else in this thread about his current abilities. I just know that he's been gone from the league for a while.
As for re-alignment, Detroit is hoping to be placed in the East so they won't have a brutal travel schedule like they do now. I would be cool with that.

I picked Nashville just due to the fact I wouldn't want to break up the Wings-Blackhawks season series. The Blue Jackets could be another choice to go to the East and honestly make more sense then the Wings or Preds seeing as how they are in Ohio.

As far as the salute goes, not much different than a fist pump, and certainly nowhere close to Ovechkin's stick worshiping. Talk about cockiness!
To each their own.

To each their own. | I won't argue the offensive talent of Jagr for sure, but I'd take a healthy Eric Lindros of that day over Jagr everytime, and I think Joe Sakic and Steve Yzerman in their times were better all-round player...again Jagr very talented, but as for 1 player to take in a game 7 do or die, he wouldn't have been my first choice.
as for Ovechkin, his cockiness is pathetic..agreed with that....however Jagr's salute is far worse than a fist pump in my books......but you are correct, to each their own.

I heard on the radio this morning that Jagr signed a 1-year deal with Pittsburgh.
Also, Paul Kariya has retired.

I do think that the Pens have to be in the lead given his history with them, though.
