Default new cro cop article 7/24

    The link: http://www.vecernji.hr/newsroom/spor...6AA3B2D271AC.2

    The translation:

The shocking April defeat from Gonzaga inspired a new rise in the strongest Croat. Mirko Crocop wants to fulfill his UFC contract in such a way that his employees don't regret paying him 2.4 million USD. He has 4 fights remaining, first of which is against the Frenchman Chieck Kongo on September 8th in London. The Croatian gladiator takes his opponent very seriously, which is proved by the sparring partners who will join him during August. The 2 times K-1 World champion Remy Bonjasky is coming to Zagreb, joined by a great standup fighter Gilbert Yvel and the legendary thai boxer Ivan Hippolyte.
"I have decided to train harder on my standup, in a 80:20 ratio. It's important for me to defend the takedown, I'm good enough on the ground now, but because of the ground fighting I neglected thai boxing. However, that's why I'm visited by todays best [standup] fighter."
Crocop is also joined by a man that knows how to handle Kongo, Yvel, who knocked out Kongo 3 years ago. Kongo is a much better fighter now, which is why Bonjasky is here, a specialist in knees and leg strikes.
Another news in Mirkos training will be a cage, expected to be delivered next week by the people from UFC.
"It's a bit smaller version than the original, since the original can't fit in my gim, but it will be octagonal. To leave nothing to coincidence, I must train in the cage in the future, since it's different than the ring", Mirko explains.

Looks like Mirko's striking will be even better.

Its kinda odd that hes going to concentrate on his stand-up, and getting 3 strikers to come help and apparently only purchasing an octagon now, i think if he was with a good team he wouldnt be worrying about this stuff.

He also said before the Fedor fight that the ground and pound didn't worry him at all because he was good enough on the ground. I hope he doesn't take the ground game lightly and that he remembers that thats the reason he lost his last match, not lack of stand up skill.

tried training and sparring with mma style gloves, i wonder how professional fighters like mirko and others would feel about this since they arent going to fight with the bigger kickboxing gloves. always room for improvement and he will get it with yvel and remy. would normally agree that he should be focusing on cage work, ground game, and td defence but he is fighting kongo so he will need crisp striking. but if he was fighting nog or couture then it'd be a different story.

Im glad to hear Mirko is going to train harder, thats dedication there, but what do you expect look at his background. Its also good to hear him say he is going to train in the cage soon instead of the ring... If I remember a while back I think it was the interview post Eddie Sanchez fight, he said something about the cage and ring being the same to him, if I remember correctly.

Sounds like he's planning an assault on the HW division.
I'd love to see the Mirko that won the OWGP.

Kongo better go AWOL before it's too late.
