When it comes to production value, UFC is top dog. Affliction impressed me with thier setup but suffers from having a ring for people to fall through. Grappling and ropes never end well IMO. They were certainly leagues above EXC though I thought. I was happy to not have 45 minutes of booty dancing hookers and 40 year old ex-strippers. I don't think anyone pays the 44.95 or the 54.95 to see hobags. Nor do the people that pay a grand for their ringside seats.
Affliction needs less RockBand and more Fight time imo. Their first show they gave too many fights to HDNet i thought. They should of put the Rockshow portion of the event on HDNet and all fights on the PPV portion IMO.
I think the one of the things UFC needs to do to up their production value is to employ or create their own Comp-u-strike/statistician and put statistics to paper.
The last 5 or so UFC's they have been throwing out numbers on 1 or 2 of the main card fights and I thought it was kinda cool. Like "Forrest lands 80% of his leg kicks" or something like that. Those stats are really nice for the casual fans that don't always catch every PPV so they don't always know who a fighter is or what he is good at. Just saying "Strengths BJJ and Striking" isn't good enough imo. But saying, "BJ has won umpteen fights by armbar/RNC and 40% by TKO" paints a more accurate picture.
This would definately help to interest people in fighters they don't know, because a lot of times these guys come in from mom and pop orgs and have no prior big money showings and the average fan says "who the fuck is this clown?" But if you say "has won 13 fights straight, none by decision" it's just IMO better.
Any other thoughts or opinions?
