Olympic judo gold medalist Satoshi Ishii (2-1) will take on last-minute replacement Katsuyori... - Bloody Elbow
Satoshi Ishii beat Minowaman at Dream - Dream 16 by schooling him for 10 minutes....his only lose was to Hidehiko Yoshida in his debut where he tried to slug it out with the experienced fighter.Olympic judo gold medalist Satoshi Ishii (2-1) will take on last-minute replacement Katsuyori Shibata (4-9-1) in an MMA rules bout at Monday's 2010 K-1 World MAX Final in Tokyo. Shibata -- a pro wrestling convert and pupil of Kazushi Sakuraba -- was announced by Fighting and Entertainment Group on Sunday afternoon after Ishii's original opponent, kickboxer Antz Nansen, failed his pre-fight medicals due to a pre-existing injury.
My obvious problem with this fight is the fact that Ishii is a very solid 220lbs....a stalky compact 220lbs and his opponent normally fights at 185lbs.
But both guys have beat Minowaman. Shibata beat him back at DREAM 8. But that was also Shibata's only real win of his career. His other wins come against fairly unknown guys with horrible records.
Still might make for an interesting fight. Ishii doesn't have much submission defense....he simply uses his power to get out of things. That is really the only way I see Shibata wining. Apart from that very slim chance...this is pretty much a gimme win for Ishii.
