At this point and time, any announcement made by DW, I'm fully expecting a curtain to drop behind him and a friggin circus will break out. This entire turn of events has turned into a three ring circus. I wouldn't be surprised if the was a bear riding a unicycle across from Jones on the 22nd.

...and after the fight, the bear fails it's drug test.

Shogun could have been offered the fight if it was for the Sept 22 date. 45 day suspension from Aug 4th.

'Shogun' Rua also turned down offer to fght Jones - Mixed Martial Arts News
according to Lance Pugmire of the LA Times who was informed by Lorenzo Fertitta himself:

@lorenzofertitta tells me Shogun Rua also turned down shot at Jones to set up Belfort as Sept. 22 opponent. ... Fertitta says, "Thank god Belfort is from the same generation as LIDDELL, Hughes, etc. REAL fighter!"
And if you want beef, then bring the ruckus

Ok so let me get this straight...

Hendo can't fight Jones because of a knee injury.
Machida refuses to fight Jones on 8 days notice.
Chael accepts the fight against Jones on 8 days notice.
Jones refuses to fight Chael, despite having a full camp whereas Chael didn't.
    UFC 151 cancelled.
Silva calls in to say he'll fight a LHW (not Jones) to save card... too late.
Jones vs Machida at 152 in 4 weeks.
Machida turns down fight because 4 weeks isn't enough time.
Shogun and other LHW turn down chance to fight Jones in 4 weeks.
    .
    .
    .
Vitor Belfort vs Jon Jones in 4 weeks at UFC 152.

    What.

You're a jerk, I already rep'd RH for pointing out the suspension thing.

You realize I can't take that back, right?

I thought he made a good point...

Now I don't believe in anything.

That's pretty much the sitch. Would rather see Sonnen than Belfort against Jones. Good night Vitor.

so even though it would be possible, he'd need to face Jones with only 15 days of contact? After he went 4 rounds just 5 weeks before that? Belfort hasn't fought in 8 months?

It would have been a great illustration of heart if Shogun or Lyoto took the bout, I don't really think the two are directly comparable with Belfort choosing to take it.

Actually, I don't even think that Jones turning down the bout with sonnen is as comparable to Machida and/or Shogun turning down a rematch, as both have just fought in the last three weeks.

They should have just shelved Jones, and made it Vitor vs Chael in a 3 round fight at 205.
