Thread: Would Pat Barry be a contender at LHW?

  1. Default Would Pat Barry be a contender at LHW?

Just curious what the board thinks? I'm surprised Pat hasn't made the drop yet. I'm assuming he's just being stubborn but he's severely undersized at HW.

He was a lot smaller when he was kickboxing too.

    Thoughts?

I don't think he would be. he would be one of the strongest strikers in the division but i think he would struggle with some of the wrestlers at LHW and would lose to the more technical strikers. He would definitely have the ability to turn out almost everyone's lights though and would be a threat to all in that manner.

No, the wrestlers in the division would all grind him down.

id love to see the guy give it a try but he still has a signifcant disadvantage on the ground jones, alexander, glover, shogun, machida, thiago silva, rashad, belfort, bader, vinny even lil nog would easily take him down and end it there now if they brought him down and to face igor that be different. I would like to see him leg kick jon jones that would be sick

A few years ago, possibly. Its hard to say.. I think he would probably be a bit higher up on the food chain for sure. Now, I see him more around a ryan bader-caliber fighter, as opposed to a top 5 guy as a 205.

So what would be better for his career? Staying at HW with the giants and cutting down?

My personal opinion is he wouldn't be a contender anywhere.

IMO his ground game and fight IQ leave too much to be desired.

I hope this isn't too big, because it's awesome.

If he could make the cut without too much of a problem i would say moving to LHW would be the right move. But the guy has got to work on his wrestling and jitz at either weight if he wants to be a contender.

Am I the only one that doesn't think he could make the cut?

I think for his brain, he'd be better off at 205. Pat's not all that old, and he doesn't have that many fights under his belt. He's taking a lot of damage against these huge guys
