Terry Etim will make his long awaited return to the Octagon in February, ending a 13-month spell on the sidelines, on the UFC of Fuel 7 card planned for London, England.
Team Kaobon teammates Paul Sass and Andy Ogle are also being lined up to appear on a card that appears destined to be packed with the very best of rising British talent.
Light-heavyweight Jimi Manuwa and middleweight Tom ‘Kong’ Watson are also likely to appear on the undercard whilst any prominent Brit’s currently featuring on the TUF Smashes series – due to conclude with the finale on December 15th – could also snag a spot, fitness permitting.
Once the hottest prospect in British MMA, Liverpool submission specialist Etim hasn’t stepped inside the cage since being on the receiving end of this year’s highlight reel moment, when Brazilian Edson Barboza ended their fascinating match-up in Brazil in February with a spinning wheel kick.
Rather like Anthony Pettis’ ‘Showtime’ kick the previous year, Barbosa’s destruction of Etim went viral overnight and has been replayed the world over hundreds of thousands of times since. Clearly Etim, whose UFC career began way back in 2007, will be aiming to put that moment behind him when he finally returns.
Now armed a 15-4 pro record, with all four of those defeats coming within his 10-fight run inside the world’s leading Octagon, Etim remains a firm fan favourite, especially in the UK. The last time he fought on home soil his 17-second submission of Edward Faaloloto in November 2011 blew the roof of Birmingham’s LG Arena and bagged Etim his fourth career ‘Submission of the Night’ bonus.
