Champ Shinya Aoki vs. Antonio McKee headlines DREAM.18 (Updated)

A lightweight bout between former DREAM champion Shinya Aoki (31-6) and Antonio McKee (28-4-2) is the latest addition to this month's hybrid "DREAM.18 and GLORY 4 Tokyo – New Year's Eve Special" event.

Officials today announced the main-event fight.

DREAM.18, which features both MMA bouts and the "GLORY 4 Tokyo – Heavyweight Grand Slam" kickboxing tournament, takes place Dec. 31 at Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. North American broadcast plans haven't been announced.

DREAM's previous attempts to book Aoki vs. McKee never quite worked out.

"Shinya Aoki is already a legend in mixed martial arts," GLORY CEO Marcus Luer stated. "His jiu-jitsu and judo skills are just incredible, and we are delighted to have him on the card for DREAM.18. The Saitama Super Arena is his home, and the greatest matches of his career have been fought there. We expect another epic encounter on New Year's Eve when he faces UFC veteran Antonio McKee."

A single loss in the UFC makes you a veteran? Uhm. No.

What was the deal with that.. Cut after your only UFC loss / first loss in like 15 fights.. Not too common. Did McKee piss off Zuffa in some way?

Antonio McKee has a tendency to blame everything that antagonizes him to be because he is black like some people we know.

For years McKee said he wasn't in the UFC because he was black.

Dana White invited him to the UFC finally then he lost and was subsequently laughed out the door.

Revisionist short form history for you.

I look forward to the New Years Eve show every year. What else is on there? I see they have a one night kickboxing tourney for 400,000 dollars. That will be cool. I hope it will be on axis t.v.

Aoki vs Mckee will be an awesome grappling affair.

McKee's style walks right into Aoki's wheelhouse.

Considering the travel, age and weightcut, not to mention Aoki's unparalleled submissions, I think McKee is in for one helluva short night. I wouldn't even be surprised if he pulls out of the card later this month.

His night will be so short that Dream will actually have a reason to not pay him for showing up.
