Bisping Canít Make a Fist, May Require Surgery to Fix Trapped Nerve, Has to Fight Belcher in 2 Months

Michael Bisping Can’t Make a Fist, May Require Surgery to Fix Trapped Nerve, Still Has to Fight Alan Belcher in Two Months | | Cagepotato

As first reported by ESPN UK, UFC middleweight Michael Bisping saw a specialist on Tuesday to address a ďtrapped nerveĒ in his neck that is affecting the right side of his body, and he may undergo surgery to fix it before his UFC 159 meeting with Alan Belcher on April 27th. The nerve problem has caused significant muscle atrophy in Bispingís right arm, and is even preventing him from making a fist. The Count explains:

ďMy right arm, and this is the first time Iíve mentioned this, I have a trapped nerve in my neck and [possibly] need surgery on my neck. The way theyíve described it is that if you stand on a hosepipe, a lot of the water doesnít get through. The nerves along my right arm arenít getting through.

ďAll along here (gestures towards his side and pectoral area), you could squeeze my pec, really get your nails into it, and I wouldnít feel a thing. My right arm is so much weaker than my left, itís called atrophy, my muscle is wasting away because nerve signals arenít getting through. I need that taken care of but Iíve been fighting so much that I havenít had time for the treatmentÖ

ďThe thing is Iíve got another fight booked already. My hand, I canít even make a fist because I keep going into fight after fight after fight. Really what I need is six months off ó but I donít want to take six months off. I like what I do, I like to be kept busy.Ē

With a tough fight against Belcher on the schedule just two months from now, Bispingís nerve-problem has him looking to make some long-overdue changes in his approach to health and training:

ďI need to be more professional in terms of my own body,Ē Bisping told ESPN, when asked what changes he needs to make after defeat to Vitor Belfort. ďI donít get injuries seen to ó Iím very old school. Thereís some issues I need to addressÖ

ďSome things need to change. I consistently overtrain,Ē he said. ďMaybe I put on too much weight between fights. Right now Iím still 203lbs, I could make middleweight at the weekend. Normally Iíd be 220 by now. Theyíre just some of the issues. Coaches, Iím my own head coach, my own nutritionist, I need somebody to kick my ass and discipline me.Ē

Need someone to kick your ass, Mr. Bisping? I'm pretty sure Dan Henderson is available after this weekend

Laying the groundwork for an excuse in case of a loss. If he's in that bad of shape he has no place even being in the gym training and shouldn't get licensed to fight. If hes hurt this bad, take care of it.

Say what you want about Bisping, but the guy is tough as nails. Hate seeing ANY fighter get injured.

im sure the UFC's insurance loves hearing this report. Your hurt to the point that you cant make a fist, which is a pretty big thing for a guy who you know is a pro fighter for a living, yet you keep fighting...? Makes sense i guess.

Well, he was wasted on Thursday night and was half an hour late to the Q&A in London which wasn't very professional.

What does he need to close his fist for anyway? He doesn't have power when he punches so may as well do the BAS!!!
