Invicta FC 5 Results: Michelle Waterson and Barb Honchak Capture Titles | MMAWeekly.com
Invicta Fighting Championships crowned two new champions on Friday at the Ameristar Casino Hotel in Kansas City, Kansas.

Michelle Waterson defeated Jessica Penne to become the new Invicta FC Atomweight Champion in a back and forth battle in the main event.

The fight was largely a grappling contest. Penne pulled guard early in the first round and controlled Waterson. Waterson bounced back in the second stanza, securing two takedowns and mounting Penne.

In the third round, Penne sunk in an arm bar and looked to be extremely close to finishing the fight, but Waterson fought though.

Then end came in the fourth round when Penne worked for a takedown. Waterson sprawled and worked for a kimura. As Penne defended the submission, Waterson transitioned and locked on an arm bar that forced Penne to tap out.

“You just can’t quit, even when you feel like you can’t go on,” said Waterson following the fight. “She almost got me in the third and I just told myself to keep going. She’s a (expletive) awesome fighter. She has so much heart. I just want to thank her for taking the fight and it’s a dream come true.”

Barb Honchak became the first ever Invicta FC flyweight champion, defeating Vanessa Porto by unanimous decision. The fight played out like a kickboxing bout. Honchak put out a higher volume of strikes. She was able to put together combinations and dictate the pace of the fight. Porto landed hard leg kicks but it wasn’t enough to overcome Honchak’s steady attack.

“I feel awesome. Vanessa, props goes to her. She was an amazing opponent for this title,” said Honchak after the title win. “It’s nice to bring a title back to Miletich Fighting Systems.”

Former Strikeforce featherweight titleholder Cris “Cyborg” Santos looked like she hasn’t missed a beat since being away from competition since Dec. 2011 due to testing positive to performance enhancing drugs. She dropped Fiona Muxlow with the first punch of the fight and battered her way to a technical knockout victory.

“I’m very happy to come back and I want to fight soon,” said Santos in her post-fight interview.

The win earned her a shot at the vacant Invicta featherweight title against Marloes Coenen.

Once again Cyborg looked like an absolute beast!
I really hope that somehow, one day she and Rousey fight. Cyborg would kill her.

Rose Namajunas is awesome BTW. Maybe she is a future champ.
Not only brazilians can do this stuff

Jessamyn Duke camp to contest Nakamoto KO
Jessamyn Duke camp to contest Nakamoto KO - Mixed Martial Arts News

Early in the first, Muay Thai world champion Nakamoto secured an underhook and outside, landed two brutal knees, and referee 'Big' John McCarthy stopped the fight.

However, the second knee landed while Duke was down, a cardninal violation of the Unified Rules. McCarthy explained that he ended the fight after the first knee, calling the contest for Nakamoto.
Duke's trainer and owner of the AFS Academy Scott Elliott is protesting the decision, as he explains to The Underground.

Nakamoto's illegal knee vs. Jessamyn Duke

This happened this weekend on the Invicta card. Maybe I'm blind, but that knee looks illegal as s---. She was stunned off the first knee, Big John is keeping an eye on her, Nakamoto throws the second, illegal knee and THEN he steps in to stop the fight. After the fight, John tried to say that he called the fight after the first knee.

What SHOULD have happened is the fighters broke up, a point taken away from Nakamoto, Duke be given her 5 minutes to recover and then the fight restarted. Instead, however, Nakamoto was given the win via TKO and awarded knockout of the night.

Some are trying to argue that she was out after the first knee. First of all, that's irrelevant. If she was out, the fight should have been stopped right then. Obviously, Big John did not move in to stop the fight after that first knee BECAUSE SHE WAS NOT OUT. It was only after the second knee that he actually moves in to stop the fight. Furthermore, it's still irrelevant because at that moment, the fight was STILL ON and she throws the illegal knee to a grounded opponent!!

Notice in the video how Nakamoto reacts knowing she made an error in throwing the knee.

Obviously we are contesting this and appealing with the athletic commission.

    Cyborg looked horrifying.

She's not a man, she's part of an alien race whose sole purpose is to deliver wrath and anguish to other beings.

    I love watching Cyborg fight.

This was the point I was making a few months back about Cyborg.
If she can prove to everyone that she is still beast of a fighter without the steroids, she will ultimately receive recognition as the best female fighter once again.

The hardcore fans (I doubt the casual fans even knew she fought) and the media will soon begin to ask Dana White and Rousey about a potential matchup between Rousey and Cyborg.

If Rousey REALLY wants to be considered the best female fighter p4p, she will need to chase out Cyborg and beat her to capture that title. Till then, Rousey will be haunted by the fact that the media and fans will continue to mutter, "Cyborg would kill Rousey in a fight".
