emetrious Johnson's next title defense will once again be on Fox. The UFC flyweight champion will defend his belt against John Moraga in the main event of UFC on Fox 8 in Seattle this July. AJ Perez of Fox Sports confirms:
UFC on FOX 8 has a headliner: UFC flyweight champ Demetrious Johnson vs. John Moraga.
The bout was added to the top of the card at Seattle's KeyArena on July 27, FOXSports.com learned Wednesday night.
This fight was scheduled to headline The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale show in Las Vegas, but a shoulder injury to Johnson (which required surgery) nixed those plans. Johnson (17-2-1) defeated John Dodson at UFC on Fox 6 in Chicago in what turned out to be a FOTN performance. Mighty Mouse trains in Kirkland, Washington under Matt Hume and also grew up in the state, so he'll essentially be fighting in front of a home crowd.
Moraga (13-1) has been buried on the Facebook prelims in both his UFC fights, but he's 2-0 with stoppage wins over Ulysses Gomez and Chris Cariaso. Fortunately for him he will keep his title shot while the likes of Joseph Benavidez and Louis Gaudinot wait in line.
A previously reported bout between Miesha Tate and Liz Carmouche is also official for the main card. Likely rounding out the main card are welterweight fights between Jake Ellenberger and Rory MacDonald, and Robbie Lawler versus Tarec Saffiedine.
