Nelson targeted as backup plan vs. JDS should Hunt be unavailable - Mixed Martial Arts News

Mark Hunt is scheduled to fight Junior Dos Santos at UFC 161 next weekend, but a recent issue for Hunt may put the bout in jeopardy. With time running short, the UFC has started to think about a contingency plan:

UFC officials have asked heavyweight contender Roy Nelson to apply for a license to fight Junior Dos Santos in the co-main event of UFC 160, MMAFighting.com's Ariel Helwani reported on Tuesday's edition of UFC Tonight.

Nelson has yet to accept the offer, but is expected to serve as a backup plan in the event that Mark Hunt is unable to resolve his ongoing visa issues. The Nevada State Athletic Commission are expected to discuss Nelson's application at a hearing in Nevada on Friday.

Man I hope Hunt makes it! As much as I'm starting to like Roy Nelson again, I really think that if he fought JDS again it would just be a repeat of the first fight. Besides, Dos Santos vs Hunt is going to be fireworks!

Hunt has to make it! Roy v. JDS 2 would be the same all over again. Neither fighter has changed at all.

Everyone on this site said that Cain vs JDS 2 would have the same outcome as the first fight as well.

Not everyone. I bought into the leaked story of Cain's knee injury; and rightfully so, in hindsight.

Roy was on MMALive the other day and they asked him about a possible re-match with JDS and he didnt sound interested at all. Ya I am sure he will take it if called up but I think he knows he aint got shit for JDS.

To me, Roy's boxing has gotten better since the first fight. Not saying he would win but it is reasonable to think the fight would look a lot different than the first one.

Im not so sure that he has gotten that much better. His boxing sure didnt look that good vs Werdum. The best shot Nelson would have of beating JDS is getting the fight to the matt
