UFC on FX 8 bonuses: Belfort, Souza, Martins, Larsen earn $50,000 | News

JARAGUA DO SUL, Brazil – Vitor Belfort, Ronaldo Souza, Lucas Martins and Jeremy Larsen each earned $50,000 bonuses for their performances at Saturday's UFC on FX 8 event.

Belfort earned the "Knockout of the Night," Souza won "Submission of the Night" and Martins and Larsen picked up "Fight of the Night" honors.

UFC officials announced the winners following Saturday's card.

UFC on FX 8 took place at Arena Jaragua in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The main card aired on FX following prelims on FUEL TV and Facebook.

In the main event, Belfort (23-10 MMA, 12-6 UFC) turned in one of the best knockouts in recent memory when he drilled Luke Rockhold (10-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a spinning back kick flush on the chin. Rockhold, the final Strikeforce middleweight champion, dropped immediately and Belfort finished him on the ground. It was the second straight head kick knockout win in Brazil for Belfort after losing a light heavyweight title fight to Jon Jones this past September.

Souza (18-3 MMA, 1-0 UFC) made an impressive UFC debut by submitting Chris Camozzi (19-6 MMA, 6-3 UFC) with a first-round arm-triangle choke. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion made easy work of Camozzi, who took the fight on short notice, moving up the card from a fight against Rafael Natal when Constantinos Philppou pulled out of the fight with Souza with an injury.

Martins (13-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) and Jeremy Larsen (8-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) battled back and forth for the first two rounds of the night's opening fight, trading big bombs and momentum swings. Although the first 10 minutes were a little short on technical mastery, they were high on excitement. But quickly in the third, Larsen walked right into a Martins punch while landing one of his own, and he was out on the canvas with two Martins follow-up shots for good measure.

Vitor should be crying like a bitch in the media every chance he gets rather than knocking people out in impressive fashion if he wants a title shot. That's what gets title shots these days, just ask Chris Weidman. Vitor is and has been the most qualified fighter at mw to be the number 1 contender.

Wanted this fight made as soon as they both won last night and won pretty much getting unscathed.. Could work out timing wise nicely with Silva/Weidman already set up. Winner of that vs Belfort/Souza winner makes sense to me and fits the time frame.

Had nothing to do with the fans clamouring for his shot?

FYI, Jacare is way too flat-footed and would probably get carved up the first time he opens up against Vitor. I just can't see him withstanding that onslaught from the hands.

First, I think you may be forgetting that undeserved LHW title shot Vitor just came from.

Second, Vitor's on a slow path of his own invention. He's on TRT, can't be on TRT in NV, maybe not CA either. Thus he's only fighting in Brazil. That's a HUGE risk for the UFC and a lot of new media attention around drug use if he were to win a title.

Third, really? Crying like a bitch? That's a douchey statement and one that ignores history. Weidman was declared the #1 contender by DW, thought he lost it, and lobbied for it back. And this was after he lost his home in the hurricane and probably needed the money more than most.

Dude stop, you're not going to win that argument with him. He doesn't get it. You're better off screaming at your computer monitor.

    Oh so true.

Weidman is the legit #1 contender as of present and since his last win. Not necessary to waste energy convincing people like him who don't get it. But if he desires to take the piss out of him for being silly, that's his prerogative.

Yeh, you're right as usual, Kevo. I already regret what I think I've done to this thread when the rest of the folks get on lunch break.

It really was a waste of energy. And I don't even care if people disagree about who the best contender is. I just don't like statements like calling a fighter a 'bitch' because he wants a top fight. That's silly.
