'Crushed' Eddie Wineland feels like fat kid teased by cake after losing title shot at UFC 161 - Bloody Elbow

On Tuesday's episode of UFC Tonight, Ariel Helwani related Wineland's response to the situation:

He said it's crushing to him. He said it's like dangling a piece of cake in front of fat kid for months, and then not letting him eat it. He wants to wait for Barao if it doesn't take too long for him to recover from the injury. But, I talked to current champ Dominick Cruz and his recovery is going well. He's hoping to come back before the end of the year. Then he'd get fight Barao, instead of Wineland.

Yeah that sucks for Wineland. If Barao and Cruz are next up, Eddie definitely needs to find another fight. He shouldn't be given the opportunity to wait and fight the winner.

Who do you guys think he should fight in that case? MacDonald? Brian Bowles (if he beats Roop on Sat)? Rematch with Faber?

i'd hate to see him rematch faber (and lose) so hopefully bowles can win and get matched up with wineland.

There's not a lot of depth in that division. I suppose it's a little unfair to Wineland, but how about a step up in competition for either TJ Dillishaw or Dustin Kimura?

Bowles would make the most sense for him. Most likely though he will end up in a rematch with Faber. But its a fight I think he could win this time around. He has greatly improved since their last fight and gave Faber a pretty good fight.

It might suck for him but it rocks for Cruz, cause this basically puts to end the discussion of Cruz being stripped of the title since it looks like he will be back to fight Barao before the end of the year.
Dude, Iím a wrestler. Iím the best wrestler in MMA. Wrestling IS, was and always has been the most dominate form of mix martial art on the planet. Thatís all there is to it. We all know it, some people want to fight it, some people want doubt it but wresters rule the MMA world. -
