Default Josh Koscheck injured, out of UFC 163 fight with Demian Maia in Rio

    http://www.mmajunkie.com/news/2013/0...an-maia-in-rio

Josh Koscheck has been injured and forced out of his UFC 163 welterweight fight against Demian Maia next month.

UFC officials on Friday announced the news. Details of the precise nature of Koscheck's injury were not revealed. The card now will go on with 12 scheduled fights instead of 13.
Koscheck has dropped two straight fights, including a decision to current No. 1 welterweight contender Johny Hendricks and, most recently, a first-round TKO to Robbie Lawler. Prior to that, he had won back-to-back bouts over Matt Hughes and Mike Pierce after losing a title fight to champion Georges St-Pierre at UFC 124.

Maia was looking for his fourth consecutive win and potentially the next shot at the welterweight title. Since dropping from 185 to 170 pounds, the submission specialist has won bouts against Dong Hyun Kim, Rick Story and Jon Fitch.

It is not yet known if the fight will be shifted to a different date and location, or if new opponents will be found for each.

Know what would be awesome? Nick Diaz stepping in. Won't happen. But that would be awesome.

    BOOOO!

Yes, it would be awesome if Nick got the fight. I think Maia would beat him down in Brazil.

Yeah, I think Diaz rips Maia if they fight. His boxing is too dynamic and his BJJ is good enough to stay out of harm's way.

I think maia would destroy iaz the same way diego destroyed him years back. Diaz's tdd still leaves much to be desired, I'b be very surprised if he could keep it on the feet.. and on the ground maia would own him. He might not get the finish (i think he would), but diaz would get controlled worse than when he fought gsp.

I still question Maia's cardio against someone who can really put up a good fight, though.

Fitch just got his back taken in their fight and so when Maia wasn't able to sub him he was able to hang out and just control Fitch as long as he kept his underhooks or a body triangle. Diaz will be harder to keep in a dominant position and will make him work hard to keep him down when he's in his guard...but that's if Diaz really puts in a good camp and takes things seriously and with Cesar Gracie as a head coach it's hard to really expect that.

I hope this isn't too big, because it's awesome.

It's hard to control the pace and tire someone out when you are on the bottom in a less dominant position, just look at diaz's fight with gsp. I think the same thing would happen in a fight with maia, except it will be a 3 rounder which makes it even easier for maia.

That sucks. I was really interested in seeing what Maia could do with Kos. I've been pretty impressed with how Maia has looked at 170. And I'm always interested in seeing Kos get handled.
