Thread: Demian Maia vs Jake Shields showdown scheduled for October

  1. Default Demian Maia vs Jake Shields showdown scheduled for October

Two of the welterweight division’s top grapplers will tussle on October 9 in Brazil, as a bout between Demian Maia and Jake Shields has been booked for a yet-to-be-announced UFC event expected to air on FOX Sports 1. In addition to being slick BJJers neither man has ever been tapped, adding another layer of intrigue to the tilt.

Combate.com was able to confirm the clash with sources close to the match-up. The city playing host to the show is still unknown at this time.

The 18-4 Maia has gone 3-0 since dropping down to 170 pounds after a respectable run at middleweight. He was last seen outpointing Jon Fitch in February, adding to other past victories over Rick Story, Dong Hyun Kim, and Chael Sonnen.

Shields is 28-6-1 in his career including success against Carlos Condit, Yushin Okami, and Dan Henderson. Ten of his wins have come by way of submission.

Was hoping Maia would be closer to a title eliminator. Meh.

Maia is sitting pretty after that shit show last night. He finishes shields and he is on his way to a shot hopefully.

I'm in for 1 to 2 fights for Maia getting a shot if he continues the way he has.

Have a feeling neither guy is gonna bother wanting to take this to the ground and we'll end up seeing their stand up games which doesn't make for a good fight.

Hopefully Maia finishes him quickly, because I have the feeling that it will be an extremely boring fight.
Shields btw has a horrible stand up game for a professional MMA fighter.
Not only brazilians can do this stuff

Nice, I like this fight a lot. I hope Maia can shut Jake down like he did Fitch.
