X-Ray Confirms Jose Aldo Broke His Foot During UFC 163 Win

RIO DE JANEIRO -- Jose Aldo's fourth-round TKO win over Chan Sung Jung was a costly one.

At the UFC 163 post-fight press conference in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the 145-pound champion revealed he injured his right foot during the fight, and an X-ray exam confirmed it was broken. As a result, Aldo isn't expected to fight again this year.

“He broke his foot two minutes into the fight,” Andre Pederneiras, Jose Aldo’s head coach, told MMAFighting.com on Sunday. “The first kick he threw landed on (Jung’s) knee”.

With his foot injured, Aldo was forced to change his game plan during the fight and use less leg kicks, one of his main weapons in his undefeated run in the UFC and WEC. However, he was still able to score his second knockout win in the UFC, the 14th of his MMA career.

Aldo's doctors couldn't tell him when he would be able to return just yet, but it won’t be anytime soon.

“We are talking to the UFC doctor, Marcio Tannure, but he’ll probably take a medical suspension for the next two or three months," Pederneiras said. “It’s up to the doctors now."

I immediately thought this when I saw his foot hit Jung's knee. Pretty badass, dominating a fight with a broken foot and getting the. Finish
    Jones Era >> Machida Era
Favorite fighters: Anderson Silva, Jon Jones, Michael Johnson, Jose Aldo, Chris Weidman.

He quit throwing kicks and I knew he broke something. Aldo always throws leg kicks and he stopped.

Very impressive fight with a brole bone. I think Rich has the "fight with broke shit" award. He fought with a broke hand agianest Nate Q and the big one where he KOed Chuck with the broke arm.

Sucks for Lamas. He can either wait out the year, or take a fight in the meantime. Which he'll probably lose, because thats how this shit works.

He fought impressively for having a broken foot the whole fight. I remember seeing the kick land on the korean zombies knee and thinking that a lot of people break their feet off those kinds of impacts lol. Reminded me of the pat berry vs crocop fight, where berry broke his foot off a knee check.

Aldo is a beast. To fight, to dominate and to finish another Top 5 fighter with a broken foot is not something that anybody can do.
Not only brazilians can do this stuff

Anyone who has Jones higher than Aldo p4p has no clue what they're talking about.

Can you imagine the hype if Jones beat someone who was 6'6" with an 89" reach? Or if Anderson beat a legitimate, ranked MW who was 6"4" with an 81" reach? Or if Georges actually managed to finish a fight with a fighter 6'1 and an 80" reach? again, dana would be PRgasming all over the internets.

Aldo is my #1 p4p fighter.

Agree. It should be clear as night and day that Aldo is the #1 p4p fighter right now. I was starting to put him above Anderson already before Anderson lost. Aldo's overall skillset is just plain better than Anderson, GSP, Jones, Cain, etc. Unlike the others he doesn't have a glaring weakness. His striking offensively from boxing to kicks, and defensively from his head movement to weaving and ducking, his takedowns and takedown defense, and his ground and pound is some of the best in the game. Really his only weakness has been his cardio in the last couple of rounds and honestly the only time I've seen that exploited was against Hominick, a fight that he had his hardest weight cut coming off an injury. Against Florian and Frankie, two guys with amazing cardio, he still beat both of them in the 5th round.

Can't wait to see him eventually go to 155. He has the best shot from any of the champions to be a dual weight class champion.

Really...just imagine how hard dana would be be gushing if Georges, Anderson or Jones fought 3 rounds with a broken foot and still kicked the shit out of a bigger fighter...literally with the broken foot in question.
