Default Barnett to Askren: Go f--- yourself

    http://www.mixedmartialarts.com/news...f----yourself/

Josh Barnett is recently returned to the UFC and Ben Askren is the long-term Bellator welterweight champion. For some reason or another, the two have starting beefing on Twitter over a positive drug test Barnett had in 2002, which Barnett of course to exception to:

"Love how the (UFC 164) Countdown show glanced over the fact (Josh) Barnett tested positive for 3 banned substances after Couture fight," Askren, Bellator's reigning welterweight champion, posted on Twitter Wednesday morning.

Not surprisingly, it didn't take long for Barnett to respond.

"Did I piss in your cheerios or something or do you just like the view from your high chair? Have fun in obscurity," Barnett wrote back.

"I won't even acknowledge VADA. They're entirely agenda driven and that agenda is NOT sport."

From there the conversation continued, with each man challenging the other and raising the stakes.

"I know it doesn't matter to you, but I can look at myself in the mirror and be ok with choices," Askren said. "In 20 years you will have a very hard time doing the same."

"Hardly," Barnett replied. "I lose no sleep at night in the least. You on the other hand have to judge & throw stones just to be relevant. ... It must feel terrible knowing that without casting insults my way nothing you say matters. You're nearly invisible. Rough life.

"Lastly, go f--k yourself you high & mighty prick. If you want to be famous just come run your mouth next time you see me," Barnett finished.

facts aside. that is a DOUCHE MOVE! to use his words "I love how" the self righteous Askren finds somebodys judgment errors and reminds them. that is a sign of weekness. Askren now comes off as a douche and is a weak minded mortal that will be put in his place once in the ufc. So this is how professional athletes conduct themselves? maybe Askren should just bring all the fighters who have tested positive for banned substances and call them out on it and see how that turns out.

don't really care about Akren one way or the other, but I'd be fine if Barnett never fought again. I'm half-convinced the reason why dana reversed his opinion on Josh is that he's never publicly had an ounce of remorse for killing Affliction single-handed.

I still can't bring myself to root for Mir in this bout, though.

And the lack of acknowledgement of his previous use by zuffa is a great illustration of the companies real feelings on PED's. Regardless of the lip service they'll pay to get a little positive press, they'll never take a step more than they absolutely have to in order to reduce PED use in the company.

Unfortunately for the clean fighters, PEDs and their effects sell tickets.

People love to see the super-hero body and the brutal KO.

I think MMA and baseball need to implement a policy right now that one failure equals a breach of contract and a 18 month ban and a second equals a lifetime ban. MMA would have its issues but the ACs would need to get on board and honor such a system.

If the juicers want to go overseas, so be it. I just don't think we're tough enough on it over here.

I know I'm oversimplifying things with the players union in MLB, but I think Selig lost a HUGE opportunity by not coming right out and banning ARod for life, stripping him of any titles and declaring him forever-ineligible for the MLB HOF. Selig has the biggest hardon for PED's in major league sports, I think if anyone was to do it, it would have been him, and it could have set the bar for other leagues to follow.

He should have said "MLB can forgive you taking PED's when you were young, and when you felt you needed to do it to keep up with a preponderance of other players who were abusing them. MLB can NOT forgive you lying about it. Dishonesty has no place in America's sport."

Even if ARod appealed and won back some privilege, the message would have been sent.

dana gives not a single fuck about PED's as long as they don't impact overhead.

If the juicers want to go overseas, so be it. I just don't think we're tough enough on it over here.
...and that's exactly how I'd market it. Use patriotism. It may be good for "lesser" countries, but it damnsure won't fly in the good ol' USA.

I've got to agree man. No mention of it at all, just "this guy won the title, then fought overseas" with no explanation of why. Having said that, Askren is still an insufferable guy.

    What did Askren expect though?

The UFC was gonna bring him in and pay him then be like, "Hey, here's this guy, he's a hot commodity but.....he's tested positive more times for PED's than Dana's said fuck today."

    Not gonna happen.

Personally, I think Askren was correct but it's clearly not his place to throw stones at someone else trying to make it in the world. If Askren's so proud of himself and how he's lived his life, the reward is in knowing that; not in disparaging others.
