Default Matt Brown vs. Tarec Saffiedine targeted for December UFC event

    http://www.mmajunkie.com/news/2013/0...mber-ufc-event

Matt Brown (18-11 MMA, 11-5 UFC) appears he'll get his wish to fight a notable welterweight.

The surging 170-pound contender has been targeted for a December matchup with former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine (14-3 MMA, 0-0 UFC), UFC President Dana White confirmed with FOXSports.com.

White said the booking is dependent on Saffiedine's health, so an exact date hasn't been nailed down. However, the UFC has events planned for Dec. 14 (UFC on FOX 9), Dec. 21 (a UFC Fight Night event in Australia) and Dec. 28 (the year-end UFC 168).

Brown currently is ranked No. 10 and Saffiedine is No. 15 in the latest USA TODAY Sports/MMAjunkie.com MMA welterweight rankings.

No! I'm responding in advance to the ignorant rants that are to follow regarding a title shot for Brown after he defeats another irrelevant fighter. So again, no!

I would have like to see Condit face Brown since he won against Kampmann, but I have no idea if he has anyedical suspensions. It would have been a quality opponent for Brown to see if he's ready to break into title contention. Or even Nick Diaz if he weren't "retired" still. Both fights would be fun to see.

Condit is clearly the #3 WW in the world. Brown hasn't even beaten a top 10 ranked fight. Brown doesn't deserve a fighter of Condit's calibre at this point. Kampmann is a much more appropriate fight.

After reading my post over, I have to agree with you. I just figured since Condit put a stop to a losing streak (to the top two welterweights in the world no less), maybe a fight with Brown (because of his current streak) would serve to keep him within range of a shot. Either Kampmann or Ellenberger would be better for The Immortal. Condit should be facing Rory Mac, not Lawler. But it is what it is.

Ellenberger and Condit would be perfect matchups. A win over those guys get you a shot at the elite where is exactly Brown should be. As far as really fun fights go, Erick Silva vs. Brown would be amazing.

Would have liked to see him fight Kampmann, but this works too.

At what point do the wins stack up enough for people to stop writing him off. I agree he should fight a top contender to get a title shot, but that fight against a top contender should have already happened in my opinion. I think this fight should do a lot for him in the standings too since it is against the last champ of strikeforce. Lots of unwarranted title shots have went to "the last champion of..." anyways, so I think beating one along with a nice winning streak should matter.
