Default Ronaldo 'Jacare' Souza says he'll fight anyone – except Anderson Silva

    http://www.mmajunkie.com/news/2013/0...anderson-silva

"Anderson is someone I don't want to fight," Souza said. "He's someone who's in my camp; he's my friend. He helps me, and I help him. So I wouldn't be a good character if I said I wanted to fight him.

"But, I'm a UFC fighter, and I hope the UFC never gives us this fight, but I'm ready to face anyone in the world in my weight class, and also at 205."

Light heavyweight would, of course, provide a wealth of new options for Souza, who's made his biggest strides at 185 pounds. And the scenario posed at the media gathering may never materialize if Weidman is able to defend his belt. But it does create another potential situation such as the one at supercamp American Kickboxing Academy, where teammates refuse to fight one another.

That situation caused UFC President Dana White plenty of headaches.

Souza, though, remains positive about his future in the promotion.

"I've not complained, because I've done two very quick fights," he said. "The UFC already gave me very strong opponents, and I like this opponent very much. And I tell you, I'm ready for anyone. I'm not going to ask for any opponents. I'm going to go to camp and train and be ready to face any opponent, because I'm an employee who loves to work."

The Brazilian's first task is to recover from a foot injury he suffered early in the bout with Okami.

"I think it was when I gave him a front kick," Souza said. "I think it hit his elbow and it hurt my toe, and it really hurt a lot. But I focused, I forgot the pain, and I was able to do a great fight."

way to mislead with the title, mmafighting.

I don't see Jacare refusing a fight with Anderson, he just implies that he doesn't want it and hopes zuffa doesn't make it happen. Which is different from what the title says.

All manner of men came to work for the News: everything from wild young Turks who wanted to rip the world in half and start all over again -- to tired, beer-bellied old hacks who wanted nothing more than to live out their days in peace before a bunch of lunatics ripped the world in half.

wait....did you just say Genki Sudo unretired?

The Okami win really upped his stock. I would be so pumped to see him fight Weidman for the title. If Silva wins it back, I wouldnt mind seeing him destroy bisping or got to battle against vitor.

Exactly. He might as well wait and see what happens between Anderson and Weidman. Plus, though he's in a very good spot right now, he hasn't 100% locked down the next title shot.

He seems like he'd be willing to fight anyone if it's for the title, but there's no point in making things akward with Anderson at this point.

Just an opinion here but improved striking or not, if he has to fight Vitor eventually he'd better hope it gets to the ground quickly.

I was thinking the same thing, and it applies if he fights Anderson as well.

I was also thiking that with regards to a possible Mendes vs Aldo rematch.

If they want to keep building his name as a top MW contender, I wonder if it'd be worthwhile to book him in a main event against a Rich Franklin or Cung Le, to get him a good deal of exposure and another win, while all the other top MWs have lined-up matches at the moment.

Jacare strikes me as being in the Werdum spot right now, being a top contender but unless he wants to take a fight just for the hell of it, has to wait a while.

Jacare really impressed me with his striking as of late. that's 3 knockouts in 3 fights right? I hope that he remembers he is a grappler first and doesn't forget his base (Rashad Evans says Hi).

I still have Vitor ahead of Jacare, so he'll need to take another bout before getting a title shot.

I do too, but if Silva regains against Weidman, I've heard Anderson doesn't want to go around again with Vitor(that's a conversation for another day lol) and a potential win over Hendo at 205 doesn't impress me too much if we're counting meaningful divisional match ups. Maybe if would've been smart for Vitor to wait until Jacare/Okami was over before he took the Hendo fight. IMO with a win against Jacare, Vitor definitely put would've placed himself in a somewhat irrefutable spot to challenge winner of Silva/Weidman II. A win over Hendo and an Anderson win still leaves doubt if Vitor will get the nod.

Not to be ignored as well, is the possibility that Anderson/Weidman have a war or a close fight and they have to do a trilogy, at which point, I think Vitor/Jacare has to be made, because they'd be waiting around until December 2014 before they'd get a shot theoretically speaking.
