Default Benson Henderson says his elbow won't be an issue following UFC 164 defeat

    http://www.mmamania.com/2013/9/6/470...-ufc-164-elbow

MMA Mania received an official statement from Henderson regarding the injury on Friday evening (Sept. 6, 2013).

My elbow isn't going to be an issue. Dr. Shafer said I can resume training immediately, but to take it slow and steady for a couple of weeks and do my rehab work. Of course I am anxious to get going full speed again but I will be smart and patient about it as well.

I want to thank my hardcore fans for their awesome support, not just in the past week, but throughout my career. I can be better. I will be better.

I'm still wondering what changed in that first round for him to back up and let Pettis get those kicks off like that. His plan was to pressure the whole time and he didn't. It's not like it is a cardio issue with him. I'm glad to hear his elbow is fine.

To me it looked like Pettis saw the opening for the kicks to the body, and Henderson was taken aback by it, and by Pettis' disregard for Henderson's takedown game. Throwing 4 body kicks in a row doesn't exactly scream "I'm worried about the takedown". Following those kicks, Henderson looked hesitant and couldn't get any pressure going.

I think we saw that same look in the Gil fight too. For whatever reason, Benson seems to freeze and then move straight backwards when hit hard.

What I can't understand and don't remember is why he even disengaged in the first place. I don't recall Pettis doing enough in the clinch to get Bendo to back up in the first place. After those kicks landed it was clear what happened but the time before those and off the cage is what is confusing me.

I was wondering the same thing. He has seemed a little flat in some of his recent matches, like he is getting too relaxed in the cage. I hope this loss gives him that fire back like when he was fighting guida and miller.
