After serving as a replacement and agreeing to fight friend and training partner Mark Munoz in Saturday's UFC Fight Night 30 headliner, Lyoto Machida said the two fighters agreed on one important thing: that the winner buys dinner.
Following a first-round destruction of his buddy, the Brazilian delivered on his promise.
With the Portuguese version of "thank you very much," Munoz tweeted the following message with the above photo: "Muito obrigado @LyotoMachidaFW for dinner! #classact @mughli See u next week! @ Mughli."
In Saturday's FOX Sports 2-televised headliner at Phones4u Arena in Manchester, England, Machida (20-4 MMA, 12-4 UFC) made his middleweight debut in destructive fashion. After blasting Munoz (13-4 MMA, 8-4 UFC) with a highlight-reel head kick early in the fight (watch the Machida vs. Munoz video highlights), Machida went in for the kill. However, with Munoz clearly out of it, Machida pulled his punch, backed up, gave a bow as a sign of respect, and them immediately checked to assure his friend was OK.
It was as classy a sequence as you'll find in the sport of professional fist-fighting.
With the fight out of the way, the two middleweight contenders said they plan to be in the gym and training together again next week.
