Thread: Fresh Off Submission of Cro Cop, Alexey Oleinik vs Jared Rosholt at UFC on Fox 10

  1. Default Fresh Off Submission of Cro Cop, Alexey Oleinik vs Jared Rosholt at UFC on Fox 10

Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic is no longer a UFC fighter, but his influence is still being felt in the Octagon.

Following a submission victory over Cro Cop in November, Alexey Oleinik has signed to face Jared Rosholt in a heavyweight bout at UFC on Fox 10 on Jan. 25 in Chicago.

UFC officials announced Oleinik’s signing and the bout on Saturday.

Going by the moniker “The Boa Constrictor,” the 36-year-old Oleinik (48-9-1) has 39 submission victories to his credit, the majority of which were some form a choke.

Currently riding a nine-fight winning streak, Oleinik most recently submitted Cro Cop on his home turf in Russia event in early November. That victory followed wins over Dion Staring and Jeff Monson.

Rosholt (9-1) made his UFC debut at the TUF 18 Finale on Nov. 30, winning a unanimous decision over fellow debutant Walt Harris. He is currently on a five-fight winning streak heading into the bout with Oleinik.

A five-round, lightweight non-title fight between former UFC champion Benson Henderson and former Strikeforce champion Josh Thomson headlines the UFC on Fox 10 fight card at the United Center.

Rosholt's opponent's name is spelled Oleksiy Oliynyk. Fight Finder is incorrect even tho it's been reported that way. Just saw his passport.

Got a lot of soul searching to do. Sorry to everyone I've let down

I still think that Jared Rosholt got signed way too early. He's still very raw. He's one guy who needs to be brought up slowly in order to maximize his potential.

Yeah, Rosholt is getting merc'd here. The only fighter of real quality he's fought is Derrick Lewis and he got pretty trounced. He is absolutely still too raw, a puppy with big paws....problem is that he can get by on the regional circuit with early finishes against job guys, but his striking and cardio are nowhere near a UFC level yet and I see Oleinik clipping him and subbing him within three minutes.
