Dana White not willing to let boxing die, ready to 'make something out of it'
If boxing promoter Don King can promote the sport of mixed martial arts (MMA), then there is no reason Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) President Dana White can't promote the "sweet science."
He'll get his start with "The Fighters," the new boxing reality show from the streets of Boston that debuts this Thursday night (Jan. 23, 2014) at 9 p.m. ET on Discovery Channel (see the video teaser here). And if his latest foray into the world of pugilists doesn't scratch his itch for the ring?
White tells FOX Sports he's ready for more.
"There is nothing but fucking characters in boxing. Boston is an exciting place for this. The accent alone speaks boxing. It's a very unique, interesting world and this is a look into it. I've always got the boxing itch. I'm a boxing guy at heart. I'm always going to be that guy. How deep would I get? Let's see how far this thing goes. I don't want to see the sport of boxing die. This is my contribution to the sport I love. I think I can make something out of it."
If boxing is nothing but characters, then White would fit right in.
