I'm kinda surprised at the tone of this thread. I thought Bendo barely won, but I thought it was close enough that the judges might score it for Thompson. I wouldn't consider it a robbery either way.
"He's got big balls. I like that." -Josh Koschek on Frank Trigg's balls.
Wow. I actually thought that last 49-46 score was going to go in Thomson's favor. I feel like they tricked me at the last second, sons of bitches...
Fightmetric released their report on this as well. They scored it 49-47 Thomson with rounds 1,2,4 going to Thomson, round 3 going to Bendo, and round 5 tied.
This fight is a classic example of how numbers don't tell you everything. For example, the striking differential was quite large. Bendo landed 114 total strikes and 46 significant strikes. Thomson landed 33 total strikes with 19 being significant. Bendo also hit 4 for 4 on takedowns where as Thomson hit 4 for 7 on takedowns. Bendo also had that standing arm triangle which eventually turned into the arm triangle in his guard. Positional wise, Thomson had the edge in numbers as he took the back 3 times whereas Hendo took side control once.
From those numbers, you would think Bendo was the clear victor but it doesn't tell you anything about how long Thomson had control of Bendo's back trying to sink in the RNC, it doesn't tell you how ineffective Bendo was with each of his takedowns and doesn't tell you anything about the scrambles.
Yea, the only qualm I had with the decision was the 49-46 card. It was a really close fight otherwise. I really wanted to see Thomson win though

I thought Thompson won the fight. I also thought he won his last tussle with Melendez. That's gotta be tough to lose two decisions in two huge fights for him.
Josh has been at his best the past three fights even with a broken hand he still controlled Bendo the majority of the fight. I've watched him in the past and think he's made major improvements in his game the last three fights. He's so close to a 155 title shot and is a tough out for anyone in the division. I hope he can string 2 wins in a row to get that title shot.
Fav Fighters: Penn, Wand, Fedor, Genki, Shields, Rashad, Pulver, Diaz bros, Melendez.
I knew they would give it to Bendo, but I was kinda rooting for Josh. I like both fighters but I felt like Josh was winning the scrambles, then add in all the time he spent in control. However Bendo didn't take any real damage, he escaped numerous times, and landed a lot of shots. I'm okay with the decision, but I'm not sure if Bendo has really improved. I see a rematch with Pettis going the same way.

i thought thompson deserved the nod wonder if the judges were swayed by the thumb injury
as for bendo if he wants to earn a third fight against pettis its only fair that cowboy get his third crack at benson
I thought it was a close fight, and I thought Josh was going to get the nod but I wouldn't call this anything close to a robbery.
