This is exactly what I thought when I was reading the article. Dana is still butthurt over the GSP affairs it is carrying over into these negotiations. As usual Dana seems to be acting like a spoiled 9 year old and letting it spill out into the media. Hopefully Lorenzo does what Lorenzo does and cleans up Dana's mess.

Henderson, Thompson, Grant, Aldo, Gilbert can easily be lost by the UFC. They have proven they do not need the best fighters to make people believe they have the best fighters.

UFC are running a fuckton of cards this year, all of which need a decent drawing main and co-main, so they'll want to keep a bunch of guys under contract who have names, like a Hendo(who re-signed at a deep discount), so I'll attribute this to Dana throwing a characteristic hissy and trying to get a lower-ish ball price on Gil, because c'mon he's still relatively in his prime(comparable to other top ranked guys they've not re-signed) and has a lot of matchup possibilities(not to mention the potential of making the cut to FW) and is coming off the popular Diego fight.

Think of it like this, if he were to go to BFC say, he'd have to wait a helluva long time until Eddie/Chandler III resolves, which would mean slumming it through a tourney or crushing cans, Japan isn't what it used to be, it isn't like DREAM and Sengoku are running regularly and WSOF only has the still raw Gaethje....so I guess he could take a shot at OneFC, but that'd be a little weak IMO.

I'd put money on him re-signing with ZUFFA.

Well I agree with that, to a point.

Oh well, I've always found him to be quite overrated. The level of competition he faced in Strikeforce isn't remotely close to the level he'll face in UFC. I even had Thompson beating him in their last fight. He most likely still thinks he beat Henderson, and is asking for way more money than someone with a 1-1 UFC record is worth.

He's a top 5 LW. And I think he beats Pettis, Grant, and Henderson in a rematch. Since he beat him the first time and all.

Well, I guess guides, kawajiri, Thomson, and aoki are all cans.

Melendez walked in the door and immediately proved he belonged by taking Henderson to the limit and, according to many folks, beating him in the process. I don't know how ridiculous his demands are but you are crazy if you doubt his legitimacy or his ranking.

I agree. I bet BFL, WSOF or One FC are more than willing to give him what he wants in negotiations.

One of my first thoughts after reading the article.

    How does it not?

He's always exciting, he's a top tier lw and he'll fight anyone.
