The Ultimate Fighting Championship announced today that middleweight champion Chris Weidman has been forced to withdraw from his scheduled title defense against Lyoto Machida on May 24. Weidman suffered a knee injury that will require minor surgery and his bout with Machida has been rescheduled for Saturday, July 5. A new main event for UFC 173 on May 24 will be announced in the days to come.

At least the fight will still happen. Just gotta wait a few more months now. And this way weidman gets more time to prep for machida

I was worried about the duration of the injury from reading the headline. Good to know the injury isn't severe and that the fight has merely been delayed.

And this is the problem with having too many cards... This was a main event and Co main event then 10 other fights that u look at and don't know what would be on the main card or untelivised prelims... now I'm assuming johnson; aldo, or barao will have to step up

Can't wait to see Weidman kick Machida's ass after Independence Day!

Going to be another great weekend.

This kinda sucks. At least while Weidman recovers, Vitor will be weaning himself off of his TRT. That way if for some reason Machida can't fight Vitor can take his spot back.

Is it too short of a time span for Vitor to cycle off TRT and fight Machida for the #1 contendership?

They say it takes 90 days to properly come down off of TRT and train effectively without it.

I like it. I still think Hendo won the first time.
