Thread: Jeff Monson has quietly retired from MMA in Russia

  1. Default Jeff Monson has quietly retired from MMA in Russia

This Jeff Monson, a verifiable international man of mystery. It's safe to say The Snowman has renounced being American after he stated anarchy was the country's only solution. Now all that's left of Monson is the newly developed Russian variation of his former self, one that continues to criticize the fallacies of America's economy. I can't be the only one that embraces this version of The Snowman. He may not be exactly what Nietzsche refereed to as the Übermensch -- but then again who really cares what Germany existentialists have to say about society. Those dudes can't even decide on whether reality even exists in the first place.

We can't lie and tell you that we knew Jeff Monson quietly retired from MMA in Russia after picking up his sixth consecutive win. Damn, well it was fun Monson. Thanks for all the communist propaganda and socialist enlightenment throughout the years.

*The article says 6 consecutive wins while Jeff's wikipedia page has him down for 6 consecutive losses.

Monson was definitely on a steep decline these past few years, really everything post-Cormier has been sub-par or poor showings.

IMO, Monson at LHW in his prime is one of those "Damn, I wish we could've seen what he could've done" what-if prospects because there were so many occasions where he was just so undersized at HW. He's definitely a different cat, but I've always respected and thoroughly enjoyed his talents.

He had a few really big wins over his career. Always enjoyed his fights. Actually don't think I have watched the Tim Silvia fight..

Looking at his wiki page and checked out Bob Gilstrap (who Monson had beat), remember seeing one of his fights on tape 15+ years ago. One funny thing I noticed was that Gilstrap lost to Josh Barnett and Carlos Newton a couple months apart. How do you go from fighting a 230+ guy to a 180lb guy? I this was well after the weight classes were established.

Bob's fight with Carlos Newton was at Middleweight, and took place in the UFC (UFC 17), which did have weight classes at that point.

Bob's fight with Josh Barnett took place in the UFCF (United Full Contact Federation). So I am guessing that either the UFCF didnt have weight classes, or the fight was a "free weight" fight.

    Tattooed for life!

    Fuck that Tim Sylvia fight.

Nice to have known you, Monson.

Trying to remember if middle weight was up to 195 back then (I might be mixing up when they had two weight classes <199 and 200+). Still imagine the size difference between Newton and Barnett (and arguably both equally skilled, although maybe back then Newton was more skilled, still pretty early for Barnett).
