Good job on the article but I disagree with points 1 and 3. Then again a lot of people do believe that 151 got cancelled because of Jones and that he fights dirty and they hat him for it. So yeah, good post.

I don't know that it would have been a DQ that would hold up to review. If you watch the clip in slo-mo, Jones' hands reflexively come off the mat as the kick is thrown. If it had landed, he technically wouldn't have been "grounded," and it would have been a legal KO.

But I'm pretty confident a ton of Jones fans would have freaked out about it, and called it dirty. I'm pretty confident a ton of them called it dirty that night, even if they can't admit it now.

    But that's bias for you.

    Which part?

If you can get a hi-def vid of the fight, his hands clearly come up. It wouldn't have been a foul, technically. It probably would have been called a foul, but it would have been the wrong call.

As for the fans thinking it was dirty, I know bones fans that freaked out about it. I'm not saying you, or anyone here would, but I personally know fans who freaked when it was thrown.

What makes a non illegal move/strike dirty? For instance, may people feel like those knee/oblique kicks are dirty. I do not.

Best example I can give is at one time punching a guy in the balls wasn't illegal. Its just wrong. I don't like stomping a guy in the face when he's on the ground either. To me that's dirty.

I was told years ago in Kenpo/boxing that a dirty move can be legal or illegal but what makes it dirty is the relation between a potential for long term injury versus the potential for it actually contributing to a victory/finish. He also said that "cheap" shots fell into the dirty category.

What's funny about him telling us that was he was speaking from a boxing perspective and IMMEDIATELY followed it up by saying that Kenpo not only embraces dirty/cheap moves, but it urges you to use it at the most opportune time in order to gain an advantage or at least enough space to escape injury. Clearly, he was speaking practically and not during competition.

Yes. A good barometer of how I try to keep some degree of balance is to figure how I'd feel if my favorite fighters performed an act, and then how I'd feel if their opponent did it to them.

Thanks alot dude. It was my first attempt at one and it's a little rough and could have been worded better here and there.

Like I said, I'm glad it got cancelled, because then I got to see a LHW title fight at 152.

And the general consensus around here seems to be most of the 'hate' for Jones is coming from the dirty stuff. I myself didn't even think it was that bad, until seeing all the gifs people put up, and that something has happened in nearly every fight, whether it's dirty or just unsportsmanlike.

Thinking of it though, 3 of the 4 events I've gone to (all the Toronto cards) have been main evented by Jones (140, 152, 165). Although I think I bought the tickets before any fights were announced.

I'm still absolutely floored that this thread is still alive and kicking. And has like over 150 comments, over 4000 views, and hasn't died out yet. I really never expected this when I wrote it, I thought maybe 100 people would view it and I'd get like 20 comments. Kudos to everyone chiming in on it

Oh, and on that Vitor kick. I don't feel it was dirty, because Jones was goofing around and would have got what he deserved if it landed and knocked him the fuck out.

He may be the reason for that rule change, that you can't put a hand on the mat to be a 'grounded' fighter, and it is now the refs call if you are actually grounded or not. I know alot of guys do it to avoid being kneed, but what he was doing with that crawling around shit was just ridiculous.

And yesssss, my rep is up to 750+. Now I can post more lol. (always wanted to keep rep above posts, if it even mattered lol). How the hell do you guys get that infinite rep anyways?
