Melvin Guillard vs. Gesias Cavalcante slated for WSOF 11

Melvin Guillard has a date and opponent set for his World Series of Fighting debut.

A long-time UFC veteran, "The Young Assassin" will make his promotional debut against two-time Hero’s middleweight tournament winner Gesias Cavalcante on July 5, WSOF executive vice president Ali Abdel-Aziz informed MMAFighting.com’s Ariel Helwani on Friday.

WSOF 11 takes place on July 5, but the city and the venue are yet to be determined. A lightweight title fight between Justin Gaethje vs. Nick Newell headlines the card.

Should be a good fight. Although, I had originally heard that they were both going to be on the card fighting separate opponents.

Didn't they train together at the blackzillians??

I think Melvin takes this easy. JZ just isn't as good as he used to but he's still a dog in this

JZ is another one of those "what if" guys, since his knee issues have really hindered his career trajectory and I really don't think he'll ever reach the apex of his "once upon a time" potential.

Melvin looked plain ole poor in the Johnson bout and I don't know what he's got left in him, because he's definitely hit his ceiling and his nomadic training camp movements haven't really shown any relative progression. If Melvin could work the kicks on JZ's legs, I could see him setting up for some power, but I just can't predict how Melvin will look now. Headhunting Melvin fails here IMO...JZ's good, I think he's got a decent chance, but a good, "on" Melvin is a hard night's work.
