Bigfoot Silva planning September return, claims UFC doctor nearly gave him liver cancer

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight Antonio Silva has decided to drop his lawsuit against the doctor responsible for shooting him with testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), which resulted in a failed drug test at UFC Fight Night 33 (details).

Probably because Dr. Marcio Tannure -- medical director for the Brazilian MMA Athletic Commission (CABMMA) -- is now on the ZUFFA payroll, according to the former EliteXC heavyweight champion.

And filing suit against your own company is never a good look if you depend on them for work, so "Bigfoot" will instead focus on life after TRT, since the controversial treatment has been banned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), as well as CABMMA.

From his conversation with MMA Fighting:

"I had two lawyers taking care of that, but unfortunately he was hired by the UFC. He's not only the CABMMA doctor now, but also UFC's doctor in Brazil, so I can't fight against my employer. I can't risk losing my job for that. I had videos showing him injecting (TRT) on me, I had emails and everything, but I had to give up on that. After the suspension, I went to two endocrinologists and they told me I should thank God that I was suspended. They said that if I continued taking the dosage (of hormone) Dr. Tannure told me to, I would have liver cancer in a year."
And if you want beef, then bring the ruckus

Why cant he sue his employer? People do that all of the time. It would probaby make him less likely to be fired while the suit is pending.

I'm not sure, but fighters may not be protected from wrongful termination because they are contractors, not employees. If nothing else, they certainly have no protection from contracts not being renewed.

I think he must be exaggerating because liver cancer from hormone injection in a year can't be that easy to get unless the Doctor was giving him some dangerously high dosages. Then again Bigfoot is a big guy, maybe they were overdoing the dosage.

Not a fan of his but I do enjoy his fights. Maybe he and Arlovski will get a rematch when he comes back.

Bigfoot vs Struve would be awesome if Struve beats mitrione!

Man, I think the Bigfoot we've seen recently would destroy Struve. Neither is fast, but Bigfoot has much more power and has shown a lot of growth in his striking. Struve is good on the ground, but I can't think he's at the same level.

But, that said, I really don't know what to expect out of Bigfoot without TRT. Has anyone heard rumors of how he's been at the gym?

So... while I'm not actually a doctor...

I am PRETTY sure that you can't "give someone cancer".

    Just saying.

Medications can induce cancer. It was the author who worded it in that manner as Bigfoot did not use that grammar.

It's always someone else with Bigfoot, never his fault when something goes wrong with his piss tests. Him and Sherk could really enjoy a nice sunday brunch together.
