The longtime UFC bantamweight contender has had his jaw wired shut since breaking it in a knockout loss to Johnny Eduardo at UFC Fight Night on April 10 and does not want to break it again, reports UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani. Wineland will finally get the wire removed Friday. He has not been able to chew or eat whole foods for nearly a month.
Wineland doesn't want to retire -- he still feels like he has plenty of accomplish in MMA. But he desperately does not want to go through a broken jaw again. He's going to take some time off and decide his future once the injury heals.
