SACRAMENTO – T.J. Dillashaw, Yancy Medeiros, Carlos Diego Ferreira and Ramsey Nijem each earned $50,000 bonuses for their performances at Saturday’s UFC 177 event.
Ferreira and Nijem earned the “Fight of the Night,” while Dillashaw and Medeiros each won “Performance of the Night” honors.
UFC officials announced the winners at the night’s post-event news conference, which MMAjunkie attended.
Dillashaw (11-2 MMA, 7-2 UFC) and Joe Soto (15-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) went the distance in the main event, with Dillashaw, the champion, defending his title against Soto, a UFC newcomer who took the title fight on a day’s notice. Soto landed some solid punches in the fight, but it was Dillashaw who did a ton of work in the standup game, letting the strikes pile up for five rounds. Midway through the fifth, Dillashaw landed a big head kick that spelled the end for the challenger.
Medeiros (10-2 MMA, 1-2 UFC) pulled off a unique finish against newcomer Damon Jackson (9-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) to open the main card, finishing with a reverse guillotine choke in the second round after a back-and-forth first.
Ferreira (11-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) and Nijem (9-5 MMA, 5-4 UFC) had a back-and-forth first round, but in the second, Ferreira put together a big barrage and dropped Nijem to the canvas, where he finished him off.
UFC 177 took place at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento. The main card aired on pay-per-view following prelims on FOX Sports 1.
