Yeah people get unnaturally bent out of shape over rep, but the only other system to control the trolls & protect blocked off forums would be post counts and atleast with the rep system users have to post something good to get rep

The new rep system seems to be pretty good. I like it alot.
- I'm not vet. I don't think I've been on a year yet, but since I came on, this forum has seemingly tripled in number of active posters (not just members). That makes it hard for the "I'm only on an hour every night" guy to really get into things. I mean a thread now adays can pick up 30-40 posts in an hour, and reading through all that stuff in order to post a thought thats not already out there takes way too much time.
- It seems that 75% of all new posts are just articles or blogs from other sites. And how many different articles about Anderson Silva can you really read in a week? It seems that many of the original threads are dissappearing, or when someone actually has a good original thread started it gets highjacked and twisted into alternative discussions, so that if you read the last post before the first post, its like reading 2 different threads. (example: Can Sherk hang w/ BJ Penn? turns into GSP>Fedor)
- I don't think guys are neg rep'd enough by the veterans here. One thing I went through when I came on is that I would get slammed if I post a one or two word response. Or if what i said didn't make sense. That's not happening anymore.
- And in the end, I think some of the issues that are making, not just this forum, but all forums, stale is MMA right now. Pride is dead and that kills 50% of all of the debate that was going on in the past. Title fights have become predictable. We know that if 4 months from now a guy wins that fight he'll get a title shot in 5 more months. Its hard to talk about a fight for 9 months and still have it be fresh when it actually happens.
- I don't care what has happened. I have purposely avoided the threads and topics about it, but alot of the guys that have been the glue here are either on less or have just aren't the same as they used to be. For whatever reasons, guys like Noob, Afro, Palma, Dork, Smoogy, Triangle, Legend, and whole bunch more aren't as visible (as in threads or posts or flames or whatever) anymore.
That's my opinion. But I'm also of the opinion that eventually people run out of shit to say and have to take a break for a while, or go someplace new to say it all over again. I mean damn, how many more times do you guys want to hear me give Jake Shields' resume out?

I think I agree with the general conceniuos, this is about alot of the newbies not truly understanding what this forum is about and what it represents. We well I would like to think most of us are true MMA fans that come here to talk and joke about one of our main passions, not to see 10,000 different porn videos. Don't get me wrong I like porn on occasion just as much as any other guy but since when does Porn have anything to do with MMA(sorry Tito). I mean I didn't even know there was an MMA After Dark for like the first 6 months I posted nnow I see it about once a day.
The other thing is this is the first forum I ever talked on, I agree I think the Mods & Administrators are to easy on some new people, they don't have any respect, and obviously do not understand what a good debate involves. If people would just chill and relax they would probably learn something. Point being when I first came on here I was the most knowledgable person in my real life group of friends about MMA, but I came on here and boy i didn't know half of what I know now a little over a year later. I have learned so much from the vets and long time posters, and no I'm not sucking ass its the truth.
Seriously people need to chill and just let the conversations flow with out getting pissy and i think that would improve alot.
Oh, and the politics and religion section is trouble that causes alot of ill feelings and dumb asses posting ignorant shit!!!!

I get it though....bringing him back was the bad part, and giving him the rep was just the extra F U in your bowl of alphabet soup. Hence "issues related to rep" , but i'll shut up.....i'm sure no one wants to hear about that anymore. Quote:

If the system's main goal is to increase member contributions then maybe "automating" a portion of it would help. Say for example if a user creates a good thread in the main forum....for every response the thread generates, the thread creater gets like 1 rep point.
This way people are going to be more inclined to contribute news and other worthwhile threads. Then in order to stop shitty thread, where members tell the starter to STFU a hundred times, from getting tons of rep mods can flag them as un-rep-worthy or something.
just a thought....

There are people on these forums who I think are ignorant, racist and pathetic wastes of human flesh, and I'm sure there are those who think the same about me. When it comes to some of these people, at least for the most part I try to just ignore their posts because it's usually nonsense.
There are other avatars that I may come across that make me stop and at least glance at the post. Like yours for instance--If I'm scrolling through a thread and I see Drama's picture, I'm more than likely going to look at the post because I recognize it as you, whom I consider a respectable and knowledgeable poster.
Same goes for Sundance's avatar of that fighter, what's his name? Ian Suckuberry? I know he sucks and got raped by Terry Martin (kidding dont let your g string get stuck too far up your arse) but whenever I see that avatar, I usually stop and take a glance at the post. Same goes with all the mods and admins because either they are vets of the forums or they are knowledgeable and insightful posters. There are plenty of other avs and sigs that draw my attention, but there are way more forums members that I choose to skip over their posts because it's not even worth taking 30 seconds to read imo.
We already have this in a way with Noob Jack City and the General Forum, but I think it would be nice to have another thread for people who have been here long enough, have at least a 1000 posts, and maybe a certain number of rep. It kind of sucks coming to the forums now-a-days because it is starting to remind me of sherdog more and more everyday, simply because of the growth. MMANews fortunately lacks a large number of trolls

MMANews fortunately lacks a large number of trolls | I feel pretty much the same way you do about the state of the forum and certain people who post. I personally ignore about 80% of the posters and just read veteran posters posts like yours, mauladala, deeznizzies, ufo, palma, smoogy, Legend, Afro, Foutch, Rivethead, kc56, Jokertheif and the mods posts.
There are a few other vets that I read up but can't remember their names atm and would take up too much space but thats really about it because most of those are the ones that actually have a damn clue about what they're talkin about.
I just can't be bothered to read a bunch of copy and paste responses 40 times in a row in a single thread alone, which is one reason why I really haven't been posting in the general MMA forum for a while because most things that I wanted to say or could have been said are posted already.
I just wish there were more things to talk about on the main MMA boards instead of the same old shit all the time. I know you guys really can't help that but just saying that is one reason why things have been stale as of late.
And the politics/religion section, that isn't even worthy of being brought up. The section the way I see it is pretty much designed for flame wars and etc, and to be quite honest, I go in there for that alot of the time because that stuff is hilarious and interesting for forums.

I think the forum deteriorated for a period of time, but I think the quality has been very good overall the past 6 months or so...
It doesn't bother me that the site has grown so much. This is the best MMA site I have ever been to.
Legend will be back just as I came back.
