first off, malware is not necessarily a virus. Malware can be adware too. So it might not have been any kind of virus at all.

Second, it's not very common that a website would installa virus on your local machine. it's possible, and it's been done, but it's rare, and 9 times out of 10 it's a phishing website, not a simple script. so I would be very surprised if that were the case.

My best guess is that someone installed a script ON the website that pointed back to that other site, and it's been labled a site that has malware on it. that does NOT mean you are infected, and in fact, it might not mean anything more than it's an innocent link to a site that has partaken in malicious shit somewhere down the line.

Anyway, my real point is, i wouldn't try to hang howie, or anyone running the site. i am extremely sure there was no malicious intent.

I know how these warning sites work. I have a website that I wrote a toolbar for. I used a couple components in it that were originally written for a site that now does malware. I didn't use ANY of the methods they used, I also didn't have anything malicious of any kind on my site. But since I used a module that was created by a company that later got pegged as a malware site ALL of the tracking softwarte like that screenshot tagged my site as a malware site.

Those companies are going to get sued someday. I fucking hate them with a passion. They cost me money and forced me to re-write the entire website, and put it on a different domain.

Anyway, just don't be quite so hasty to blast the guys that run the site.

As we are seeing here, this isnt true. Granted most people who got hit appear to be foolish/unfortunate enough to use IE, but you as the website admin have to have some kind of responsibility in maintaining your own website so that IE users dont get infected just by visiting. And if you have problems with viruses on your own website its a good idea to make sure that users know front and center, not on one of your less viewed forums.

And your idea that "hey, its your fault for clicking shit on our own website" is pretty weak. Having a website that can get you viruses if you just click on the wrong thing is mostly the website's problem.

At the very least if you go blaming a virus from your site on the users, you had better at least apologize when it turns out to have been your fault.

Maybe you have never worked a job with a computer, but most of us that do take this shit very seriously. Employers are very quick to fire people for shit like this, and for you to dismiss SDK as a drama queen for pointing it out just shows what an ass hat you are.

It seems as though my work computer may be alright. But I didn't click any adds or links, all I did was go to the main page and next thing I know virus alerts are popping up on my computer. I haven't been in since Tuesday so I'm not for sure, I will find out tomorrow when I go to work.

For anyone that has it. Chances are you're gonna have manually remove it. It kept coming back until I removed the actual root file that had somehow avoided detection.

I went up yesterday to get my check and they say that the virus warning pops up a couple of times a day, but the computer hasn't crapped out so hopefully it won't. The bad thing is, we just got that computer back on Tue from having viruses and having to be dumped and fixed and the same day another virus gets put on it.

It's maddening. I'm getting transfered to another store on Monday so hopefully it will make it till I'm gone. Haha.

you guys mean to tell me there is a site beyond the forums? Jesus titty fucking Christ, i thought the only way to get news was to watch atj lucko and thumper argue about politics, and hunterkiller for his tremendous work on top ten lists for movies(don't think Ive ever seen him post in an mma section here before), not to mention doggage and his unparalleled ability to post news directly from other sites seconds after real reporters turn in their work.

i wish i had all that time back.
