Ultimate Fighter - Tommy Speers...(spoiler alert)

Just watched the latest episode and Dana White just hyped Tommy Speers saying he could become a force in the welterweight division. I personally see it from the otherside of the fence in that for the second week in a row Tommy Speers got caught in another deep submission attempt. Anyone who relies on his strength so much to get himself out of trouble so often will never contend for a title shot in the 170lb division. Maybe one day after he takes enough embarassing losses to learn to submission game but not anytime in the near future.

I'm just curious to see what other people think about Speers and his potential.

The guy is 22. Nobody is saying that hes that skilled right now. Hes obviously not. But he has tremendous physical gifts, seems tough, and seems to keep his head about him in tough spots. You can teach a guy BJJ or boxing. You cant teach those other things. Thats why he could be a force.

I dont see him not realizing that his BJJ isnt there. He doesnt need to be caught to learn that. But you cant learn that stuff overnight (especially from Hughes who isnt a BJJ guy really), so its reasonable to suggest that he will eventually pick it up given the right camp.

What Dana said, in the context that he said it, was right on the money. For Tommy not to tap in the RNC from War Machine, or tap to the Armbar or Triangle from Ben, which were all deep, than he certainly has the heart to fight. And given great trainning, and a good camp, he could be trouble down the road.

Arroyo said that "Technique always beats strength" and he is right, but heart and balls can take you a long, long way in this sport.

yeah the fact that he didnt tap in those tight spots shows mental toughness and balls.i think with the right camp he will be a force in that division

Well said.

I personally can't believe he didn't tap to the armbar or the fact that his arm didn't break. Or maybe it did, hmm. Maybe he's going to be the one who can't fight in the semi's because his arm actually did break. That would be some crazy shit.

For real. That was one sick looking armbar and I also thought he was going to tap but again he toughed it out. Good for him but damn, he's not going to be that lucky all the time.

I actually thought that might be the case

Ben said that he thought he heard it pop. Between that and the severe cut that he has i think he is going to be the one who wont be able to fight. i know the cut is healing and all but knowone else is hurt at all. unless a sudden injury occurs....but there are only a few days left in the house...so who knows lol

I would have to say that I tend to agree with most of whats above. Maybe my criticize comes from being so tired of listening to the Dana White hype machine. Not sure why it took an hour to sink in but maybe Ben hearing something pop and the show teasing that one of the semi-finalists can't fight are connected?

i read a article on ufc junkie that said one of the guys out of the competion leaves and not necessarily because of a injury.
