| How many of you think that Ben won round one?
Against Tommy obviously. I think it was close and I can see both arguments. Ben was closest to finishing in that round but Tommy controlled Ben most of the round and did more damage. So, can a fighter win a round while being on his back the whole time without getting a sub? Do you think a case can be made for Ben winning round one?

I thought Ben won the first. He had Tommy in two "FULL" submission attempts. I credit Tommy for not going out in them, but for what happened in the round, I'm suprised that Ben wasn't given the round. However, Ben was done half way through the 2nd and would not have won the fight.
I thought / think Ben is the best fighter on the show, but he lost or would have lost.

No. He just took too much damage and had absolutely no control in the fight. The damage and sub attempts probably balance each other out, but you have to factor in control, and Tommy dominated that first round.

Tommy was on top the whole round, but he didn't control Ben at all, Ben had him off balance the whole time on the ground. Those 2 sub attempts were by far the most damage done in the round, and I can't believe Tommy's arm didn't break. See kids, that's why you eat your cornbread!! That triangle choke was tight as hell too, but Tommy is a fuckin machine and he won my undying respect tonight. I still would've given the first round to Ben, and the 2nd obviously to Tommy... but Ben was done so Tommy would have dominated the 3rd even more than the 2nd.

That first round was a perfect example of how you win a round off your back. It should of gone to a 3rd round but Ben would of just got humped that round too and lost it, shitty luck man.

I think an arguement could be made that Ben may have won the first round, but personally I didn't think so. I expected the fight to be over after the 2 rounds, and like someone said it didn't seem like Ben had it in him to continue. He almost fell when throwing a punch in the 2nd round. I was pissed though I thought he was breaking Tommy's arm.

I feel the 1st round was a Draw. Sure he almost subbed em. But he got taking down and got pounded a little. But shit ben is very well rounded its a shame he was sick. I gotta give the farm boy some props thou. that arm bar was deep. He's a boring but tuff fighter.

He completely controlled the location and positioning in the first round. Complete control is called domination.
"dom·i·nate
to rule; exercise control; predominate.
to occupy a commanding or elevated position."
Thats from dictionary.com. What Tommy did is what the word means.

Tommy controlled the position, but its hard for me to say that he dominated that round because even though he was in the position he wanted, he was also the only person that was in any trouble in round one. Ben did all the actual damage that round.
Controlled the first round? Sure. Dominated? Maybe in the letter of the law, but definetely not in the spirit of the law.
I give the round to Ben because he had Tommy in some serious trouble not once, but twice in the first round.
