| Has TUF jumped the sharK?
Maybe it was because I was eating dinner at the time, but I personally think the TUF franchise hit a new low by spending as much time on a scatological prank as it did on the last remaining fight of the quarterfinals.
My question is this: Should the show be used as a means to educate more recent fans on the techniques and training of MMA? And also spend more time showcasing its "future stars", beyond a couple of montages during the episode in which they fight?
OR
Continue to rely upon the personal drama and other reality TV conventions in order to draw in completely new fans?

Unfortunatly, at the end of the day TUF is a reality show, and it seems like their going in the direction of "personal drama", more than actual reality.
I really don't think it's going away anytime soon though.

I fear that the show is as much about business as it is about sport. And because of that there will always be more dramatics than we would like.
It's not a good thing, but it's business. I don't like it, but I don't see it changing any time soon.

Yeah it just comes down that that dilemma that a show about guys training for an hour every week has the potential to be boring as hell to all but the hardcore fans. Personal drama has the potential to draw in more viewers.
Although they do still need a way to freshen it up.

How do you think they could do that?

It might be interesting to have 2 separate houses. One for each team, so that they know nothing about who will be fighting, each coach just picks a fighter to send out each week. Meh Might be a little different.
I was going to suggest one where the guys stay at home and train and then fight a couple of weeks later and they follow the guys through their training and issues at home up to the fight but this would be more expensive to film sine they would need more crew and such.
How about having the coaches live in the house too. (I doubt they would take the UFC up on that offer) but it would change the dynamic alot.

The first option would be the best, I really don't care what there doing inside the house, unless its something very funny or theres a fight. I gurantee therer doing it to get women to watch. The only reason my wife watches the show and this is straight from her mouth is that it reminds her of the Real World, she'll actually quit watching it when the fight starts, pretty much everytime. They are dong it to get the female demographic. There afraid they won't get viewers, I ussually watch the show before work and fast forward through till I get to the fight, I like the training to. I think they need to start having the competitions again, I personally thought they had some pretty all right ones, and that could be the filler they need, they would be able to level out the training and the house thing as well. It seems like Dana could edit that shit if he really wants the fighters to seem legit like he always claims to want them to appear instead of like ignorant muscle heads.

I agree with the fact that they need to show a little bit more training. In an hour show, you can delete half of the bullshit that they show. Yes maybe the pranks and pushing and shoving and yelling will help get the odd viewer to watch, but I like to see the fighters training routines. Thats why I like All Access. Not to see them eat dinner, or to do their favourite hobby, but the actual training. Im sure with a half an hour left, they could spend 10 minutes on each fighter showing them prepare, then the last 10 could be the fight. It also ruins it for me, when round 1 starts with 4 minutes left of the show, I already know it doesn't go past round 1

You know thats funny you say that me and my friends always talk about that we'll be watching and like you said theres 10min left in the show they statr the fight, so you know the have to include the On the next Ultimate Fighter clip at the end witch is probably at elast 90 seconds ussually, its stupid they should have the fight in the middle of the show then show the people training for the next fight in the end of the show, that would be kinda cool, give you good fight anticipation anxieties on some fights also if you had to wait a week to see it.

I also think they need to allow the audience to get to know the fighters better, besides just on the episodes they fight.
Show them training, have them talk about their careers, let the coaches talk about them more.
If the UFC is gonna continue to push TUF veterans more than other guys then I think they could do a better job building them up.
