George Sotiropoulous ''I didn't know I had 5 minutes to recover''

On a video interview with TUF 6 semi-finalist George Sotiropoulous on UFC.com, the Australian states that he was unaware that he had 5 minutes to recover from the accidental poke in the eye he suffered from Tommy Speer.

Favoured to make it to the final and fight Mac Danzig, Sotiropoulous was instead knocked down and then pounded out in the first round of his semi final matchup. In the video interview conducted by UFC.com post fight the Team Serra fighter states how after he sufferred the poke in the eye he was seeing double vision.

He goes on to state how he tried to stop the double vision by closing his injured left eye, but at the same time he was met with a thunderous right hand from his opponent which dropped him to the mat, where he was eventually finished.

George Sotiropoulous is now scheduled to fight on the main card of the TUF 6 finale against Billy Miles who was submitted by Matt Arroyo in the first round of the Ultimate Fighter competition.

I honestly feel like the fight would of been different if the poke never happend but wtf can u do about it now....

His fault.

Hell, I knew that he had 5 minutes and Serra was telling him to take his time. If you dont know the rules when you walk into the Octagon, you deserve whatever comes to you as a consequence of not taking 15 minutes to read through the rules.

He needs to stop making excuses. It was a result of HIS OWN CHOICE to be ignorant. That makes it his responsibility.

I love how the fighters never know the rules...

Information His Coach Should Have Relayed To Him At The Time Of The Eye Poke.

NixHex 12-07-2007 05:05 AM

I had Tommy winning up until then.

I know I wouldn't put my ass in the cage for someone to try and beat me into a living death without knowing every rule front & back.

He really should have known the rules, but either way Serra should have been vocal about "the 5 minute rule". If it were me coaching him I would have reminded him before he went back in. Like when George said he was ready to fight then I would have told him he had 5 min.
I blame the fighter and the coach for the error, but I also think it would have been a diffrent fight, b/c George was pretty shook up after the poke.

In any case I like Tommy Speer and been pulling for him to make the finals - I just didn't think it was going to happen. That being said he's going to have to bring everthing he's got on Saturday.

Didn't Serra tell him to take his time? All of these fighters that get kicked on the cup or poked in the eye always rush back into the fight, then when they lose they talk about it like that was the cause of them losing. I don't understand why they just don't take the 5 to recover.
