Question Was Paul Georgieff thrown to the wolves on TUF Finale?

IMO there wasn't any doubt that Georgieff was led to slaughter in having to face seasoned vet Jonathan Goulet.Does anybody have any ideas to why
he was given such a tough opponent(for him any way)at the TUF 6 Finale?Did he maybe piss someone off like Dana or Joe Silva or what? Because he was just severely over-matched and really never had a prayer of winning that fight. The opening odds were actually pretty generous at
(+400)Georgieff/(-360)Goulet,because they could've easliy been double that

I thought the same thing, it was weird as Goulet was the only UFC vet on the card - aside form the main event of course. Although I'm a fan of Goulet's and was happy to see him given a near-guaranteed win.

It seemed kinda cruel, Georgieff stayed on the show despite have a family crisis, was knocked out, then given the toughest fight on the finale.

My suspicion is that the UFC had to scramble to find him an opponent, hence the mismatch.

i think Bowman was suppose to fight Paul. but if he's still recovering from his knee injury, or the UFC just decided to not bring him back or whatever...thats why he was forced into the Goulet fight. maybe the UFC will see him taking such a tough fight as a good thing and maybe give him one more chance...but i doubt it. poor Paul

Yea, I was wondering the same thing. He really didn't do that bad of a job either considering there experience difference. It went longer than I thought it would. Didn't he have the toughest fight on a finale ever for a TUF person? Well minus two finalists fighting each other.

Off hand I can't think of someone else who ever got a seasoned vet coming on the finale like he did.

But like Paul said himself... He doesn't like to strike and he is an engineer who will make tons of money in the working world.

I was under the impression that Georgieff was to fight Bowman, who is still injured [and should maybe reconsider his career choice, regardless]. In addition, Goulet had pulled the internet call-out stunt to secure a match with Swick, who got injured in training [and is now fighting Burkman in January, with Cote/McFredries on the undercard].

I imagine that rather than disrupt multiple bouts by pulling a fighter from here and from there, they just matched two guys in the same weight class who didn't have opponents.

I think Paul is a game fighter and give him respect for stepping up, but I don't think Goulet is a particularly great fighter. I really think he belongs in the WEC or should stick to TKO.

IMO that's not any different than having to fight Danzig.

I think that this was a do or die matchup for goulet considering he has lost 3 out of his 5 fights in the UFC. That sucks for georgieff but there is a full fight card for UFC 79, a fightcard for UFC 80 and the beginnings of a fight card for UFC81 and fight night. If they pulled someone off of one of those fightcards they would have to find a short notice replacement. Why do all that when you have goulet who has fought in other organizations in between the georgieff fight and his last ufc fight against dustin hazelett. He is a low level competitor in the UFC and Joe Silva know that so why not use a dispensible fighter like goulet?

the closest i can think of is lobstah fighter leonard garcia & then solomon fighting luigi fioravanti or how the hell ever you spell his name lol

but goulet is just so damn inconsistent

beat jay hieron / got KTFO by Bang Ludwig

decisioned cummo / got raped by Koscheck

called out swick / got hazellet which is a major step down in competion (no offense to hazellet) & gets submitted in like a minute

goulet is talor made for the WEC & im surprised he keeps getting invited back. i think all those GSP references at least keep his name in conversations haha

I didn't see the fight and I only watched one episode the whole season but I do know that this was Goulet's last fight on his contract. They may send him to WEC or just release him, neither decision I would disagree with.
