If you watch K-1 they always talk about straight kicks to the face and how disrespectful they are and if that were to happen in the gym during training, you would get fucked. I consider straight kicks to the knee the same.
I learned a similar kick in Wing Chun except it is a short kick to the knee (I believe this is the one Anderson has used and I have seen others use in the UFC)
For sure it could really mess a fighter up, but their knee would have to be straight with their weight planted on the front foot to cause damage.
I think adding new rules would hurt the sport. Unless a few high profile guys get hurt, I don't see it changing.
Hell....same with footstomps...very disrespectful, can easily break bones, doesn't have the lasting damage, but still, they are intended to injure, cause pain and fuck with the opponents balance and how he is able to distribute his weight.

I think it is a dirty tactic that doesnt necessarily display skill. You cant take someone out with one leg kick to the thigh but a straight kick to the knee with enough force could take a guy out for a year plus and with that his ability to earn money.

I would prefer front kicks to the chest, but I see AO use them often. Gina throws one to the body too.
As for footstomps, not alot of fighters use them, but I think its more of a tactic. I lift my foot, and it looks like I will stomp,so they lift theirs, and I take advantage. But yes, they fucking hurt, lol.

| Straight kicks to the Knee
This was a defense move that my parents always told me growing up. Lucky for me, I've never had to use it, but I guess I'm just wondering if it actually works. If you kick somebody straight in the knee cap, will it break their leg? mma fitness |

Also I don't see any professional fighter complaining.

| No its not
I agree with you that it is not illegal and it does obey the rules of MMA. Maybe it is his strategy to down the opponent.

So true. I went into a martial arts gym and a nice oriental guy sold me the mma gloves I was looking for and on my way out I noticed a heavy bag with a torso like a human and head to boot. The guy showed me how useful this type of bag was and I expected him to throw down a few punched to torso and maybe a head kick. What I got was him showing my how to jab the dummy in the eye with his fingers and chop him in the throat as well as a straight finger jab to the adams apple. I walked outta there and laughed histerically when my brother said "the only thing the guy can show us is "PURE CHEESE" I hit the floor...I feel the same way about straight kicks to the knee. "PURE CHEESE" bye.

I have no problem with a straight kick to the thigh, or shin, which I believe were what silva threw on thales leites.. cant remember now, Id have to watch the fight again. But strikes directly to joints like that are pretty bad..
