Agreed. Just a bit of an unnecesary anticlimax.
That is your opinion. Mine is different - imo he was seriously hurt during his lnp (constant liver & kidney knees) and every time he stood up. His ground game was null and void vs Sham and he knew it, so when he had the chance to exagerate and claim victory, he took it like a pussy. |
Well Shamrock was certainly landing knees in bunches to the body of Renzo and Renzo was not damaging Shamrock at all, though he was controlling him and passing guard but he did not attempt any submissions, he gameplan was seemingly takedowns and control to try and win via decision.
I think Renzo won round 1 with the 2 takedowns, passing of the guard constantly and control (though maybe Shamrock was trying to just stall the fight on the ground so it would be stood back up), Shamrock did try and get up from the bottom in round 1 but was unable to.
Renzo likely qon round 1 on all 3 judges cards and was winning the 2nd round as well, being only a 3 round fight it was going to be very interesting to see how the fight ended as Shamrock was seemingly going to be down 2 rounds going into the 3rd and final round, Shamrock could've landed the KO punch but Renzo just as easily could've mustered up another takedown and just rode out round 3 and taken the unanimous decision.
Either way you look at it, I personally was dissapointed with Shamrock, I did not expect him to be taken down at all, he has totall refined his fighting style, nothing like the Frank Shamrock from the Pancrase days who was a phenomenal wrestler, his striking is great but is not world class and wihtout good takedown defense I do not like his chances against any of the elite MW's like Filho, Hendo, A. Silva, Kang and Misaki, likely not Franklin or Marquardt either.
