According to a report on, a knee injury will be forcing Willamy Freire off the upcoming UFC On Versus 2 live card, which features Jon “Bones” Jones vs. Vladimir Matyushenko in the main event.

“Chiquerim” Freire was set to make his UFC debut, bringing with him an impressive 17-3 overall professional MMA record, in a bout against another top Brazilian lightweight, UFC veteran Thiago Tavares.

Tavares, 4-3-1 in UFC competition (14-3-1 overall), is now left without an opponent for the August 1 card scheduled at the San Diego Sports Arena in San Diego, California.

UFC has under two weeks to scramble and find a lightweight to replace Freire for the 8/1 card. We'll keep you updated if any further information on the fight becomes available.
