UFC Welterweight champion Johny Hendricks, who is currently out of action recovering from bicep surgery, might have his next opponent lined up already – and it’s a familiar one.
During an interview with Fox Sports, UFC President Dana White says Hendricks could very well be making his first title defense against the main he defeated for the vacated belt back in March (UFC 171), “Ruthless” Robbie Lawler. Following Satuday night’s UFC on Fox 12 event which saw Lawler earn a majority decision victory against Mike Brown in the main event, White said:
“Robbie Lawler has been an absolute stud for us, stepped up, kept taking fights. This is his third fight in four months or something like that. Now he’s going to have some time off; time to relax, time to focus and just think about Johny Hendricks. If I was Johny Hendricks, I wouldn’t want to be fighting Robbie Lawler, coming off a big layoff. [Early 2015] sounds about right.”
Lawler is 2-0 since coming up short in a very competitive fight against Hendricks.
