September 17th, 2008 Earlier this week, Fiveouncesofpain.com's Sam Caplan learned that a bout between Mike Swick and Jonathan Goulet was in the works for The Ultimate Fighter Finale in December. MMANews.com was able to confirm with Goulet that the fight is more than just rumor and that he is waiting for the contract so that he can sign on to fight Swick. "It's a real rumor, I am just waiting on the contract now" stated Goulet. The two were set to fight last year in September when Goulet was making a return to the UFC and called Swick out online via a message board posting. Swick would be forced to pull out of the bout due to injury and Goulet would lose to Dustin Hazelett in his return. Goulet says that he does not believe that Swick is upset with him over the message boarding posting and has a lot of respect for the former Ultimate Fighter contestant but he has goals of his own. "I had the goal to be in the top ten before the end of the year and by beating him I will reach my goal." Goulet said regarding getting to the top. "I have a ton of respect for him but I know this is going to be my night because my year is not over yet." Following the loss to Hazelett, who was Swick's replacement at UFC Fight Night last September, Goulet has reeled off three wins in a row since, including a fight of the night bonus winner in April at UFC 83 in Montreal when he defeated Kuniyoshi Hironaka via a TKO. The experience has helped Goulet as he feels he may not have been ready for Swick when they first were scheduled to fight. "In 2007 I wasn't ready to fight Swick, in December I will be ready." MMANews.com will have an update when the fight is officially signed. |
