PRIDE Officially Sets Rules For U.S. Debut In October
Posted on Sep 28, 2006
Dreamstage Entertainment has announced the official rules for the bouts scheduled for their United States debut at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada in October.
In order to comply with the NSAC rules for regulated mixed-martial arts matches, PRIDE has changed their regular rules up quite a bit from their shows held in Japan. -The fight will still be held in a PRIDE ring, as opposed to a sided-fence structure like the majority of American MMA companies. -The fights will consist of three five minute rounds, unlike normal PRIDE bouts which has a ten minute first round and a second and third round of both five minutes. -No one will be allowed to wear a gi or shoes in fights. -Kicks and knees in the four-point position are outlawed by the NSAC - so unlike normal PRIDE bouts, there will be no kicks, knees, or stomps to the head of a downed opponent. -Despite the NSAC allowing elbows to the face on the ground, PRIDE does not for their Japanese shows. They will continue this rule for their bouts in America - so still no elbows on the ground. -Judging will be changed as all bouts that go the distance will be decided upon by three NSAC-appointed judges - who will use normal NSAC MMA judging criteria.
