Couture Submits Coleman To Top Off UFC 109
Posted on Feb 7, 2010

It was a fight that was supposed to happen in 1997 and now, after 13, legends Randy Couture and Mark Coleman at 46 and 45 years of age respectively, have met in the Octagon. It was a lackluster affair for Coleman who during the first round was peppered by shots from Couture and then submitted by rear naked choke in the second. Where Coleman goes from here is kind of unknown as he really showed his age tonight looking 65 instead of 45. Following the bout while being interviewed by Joe Rogan, Coleman exchanged verbal jabs with Tito Ortiz who was cageside for the fight. Is this a match up that may come up following Titos run on TUF?

In the nights semi-main event, Chael Sonnen took Nate Marquardt to the canvas and grinded out a decision in a fast paced middleweight contest that seen Sonnen take a serious elbow that opened a deep gash on his forehead. In the post fight interview Sonnen told the crowd he was worried the fight may be stopped. Sonnen also now finds himself next in line for a title shot at 185lb kingpin Anderson Silva while Marquardt takes a few steps down the ladder.

Paulo Thiago, who in four UFC fights has fought three members of the American Kickboxing Academy now holds a 2-1 over the gym as he knocked Mike Swick down and then followed that up with a D'arce choke just 2 minutes into the contest.

Welterweight loud mouths Frank Trigg and Matt Serra opened the show with fireworks when Serra knocked out Trigg 2:33 into the stanza.
