Yoshihiro Akiyama Not Happy Chris Leben Stepping In For Wand Silva
Posted on Jun 24, 2010
With Wanderlei Silva forced out of UFC 116 due to an injury sustained in training, Yoshihiro Akiyama isn't too pleased he has to prepare for his new opponent, Chris Leben, on just ten days noticed:

"I am not pleased with the change. There are just ten days left until the contest for me to determine [Leben’s] threats and the time is insufficient to establish a tailored gameplan. Leben is also not as high-profile as [Wanderlei] Silva and that does not help me. If there is to be a replacement I was hoping for a big name. I spent one year preparing hard for this fight and this news has come as a big disappointment, my motivation has waned. I do not know yet what will happen ... In the worst case, I will not take part in the [UFC 116] event. We are working hard to resolve this issue."

Big enough name
A win over Leben will earn you respect from the TUF generation of fight fan. To them Leben is more well know and the Belcher fight didn't show much. Come in Whoop his ass and then call out the bigger name. I for one will respect that more than this crap. I hope Akiyama has good long run in the UFC. He makes this division much more interesting IF he is winning.

Dont you do it!
Sometimes life isn't fair. Ask Mr. Belcher how he felt when he got robbed and you benefited. Probably wouldn't even be facing wandy if u didn't get that bogus decision. You gotta fight Leben. Pay your dues like everyone else and earn your respect.

Cowardly Move
I can see Akiyama's point about the last minute change but the fight is virturally unchanged style wise. Its still an agessive hard-nosed striker. He shouldn't back out because that would only hurt the fans. As much money as hes paid he should suck it up and put on the show the fans want to see.It will be a really cowardly move to back out now.
