Powerhouse World Promotions (PWP) held their "War On The Mainland" card, headlined by former UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia and fellow UFC veteran Paul Buentello, on Saturday night, August 14 in Irvine, California. The show was available on pay-per view with a pretty healthy undercard, and ended up offering a little something for everyone, as there were a number of noteworthy occurrences during the show.

The significant action began in the second fight on the PPV, where lightweight MMA legend and former UFC champion Jens Pulver (22-14-1) returned from retirement to take on Diego Garijo (5-1), a veteran of the Bellator FC promotion. Pulver dropped his sixth consecutive fight, losing by guillotine choke at just eight ticks past the one-minute mark of the first round. It's also his fourth in a row by submission, which Pulver told MMANEWS.COM in a recent exclusive interview is one of the reasons he refuses to quit no matter what anyone around him thinks. His argument is a simple one: it's a skill set he needs to improve, but losing by submission doesn't negatively effect his health. In Pulver's mind, this makes him remaining in the fight game a decision, not a risk. In any matter, tough loss for "Little Evil."

The next high-profile fight was for the vacant PWP 185-pound title, a match between former UFC middleweight contenders Matt Horwich (25-15-1) and Thales Leites (17-4). The fight was an exciting one, which is surprising when read on paper considering Leites was 50-percent of the equation. Leites is coming off of multiple stinkers, making him a heel in the eyes of many of MMA's most loyal fans. Unfortunately for him, being one-half of a good fight is the only thing Leites has to show for his performance, as it was Horwich who came out on top, winning an impressive fight by rear naked choke 44 seconds into the fourth round. With the victory, Horwich becomes the first-ever PWP middleweight champion.
